Topic: Xenoblade series tag

The bulk update request #3556 is pending approval.

create alias xenoblade_chronicles_(series) (0) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create alias xenoblade (0) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create alias xenoblade_chronicles (419) -> xenoblade_(series) (585) # duplicate of has blocking transitive relationships, cannot be applied through BUR
create implication xenoblade_chronicles_1 (72) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication xenoblade_chronicles_2 (509) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication xenoblade_chronicles_3 (75) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication xenoblade_chronicles_x (20) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication blade_(xenoblade) (403) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication nia_(xenoblade) (299) -> xenoblade_(series) (585)
create implication xenoblade_(series) (585) -> xeno_(series) (4)

Reason: Collapses all duplicate series tags into a single series tag and implies all games to the series tag. This should make a series tag that is more useful.

Also, I am unsure if blades and nia should imply xenoblade the series or xenoblade 2 specifically due to cameos in xenoblade 3.

topic #34765 proposes collapsing them into xenoblade_chronicles instead, which I think I prefer.

There are arguments for and against. When I made the BUR I didn't put much thought into it, but now I think I'm going to side with xenoblade_(series) because I found the following.

Shouldn't it implicate xenoblade_(series) instead, since the franchise is bigger than just the chronicles games? And to differentiate content from the first game? It seems Xenoblade Chronicles is sometimes used to refer to the first game (since that's what it's called), instead of the little-used Xenoblade Chronicles 1 tag.

The most important thing is to avoid mistags. I believe aliasing xenoblade_chronicles is necessary for that.

To be clear, I'm not particularly knowledgeable on the Xenoblade games. Though as I've come to understand, Xenoblade is exclusively referring to the Xenoblade Chronicles games (1, X, 2, and now 3), but there are other games like Xenogears and Xenosaga (which itself is a series of 5 games) that came before and are part of the Xeno metaseries . Xenosaga is a spiritual successor to Xenogears (Xenogears being owned and developed by SquareSoft, and after Square started focusing more on Final Fantasy, some developers left and formed Monolith Soft, where a number of people who worked on Xenogears went on to do Xenosaga), while Xenoblade Chronicles was developed after the premature end of the Xenosaga series by the same studio.

You can simply call the entire thing the “Xeno series” as a collective. Btw that’s quite the extensive explanation for someone claiming to be “not particularly knowledgeable” in the topic.

That would be a like if we tagged persona games under megami_tensei. While there is a parent series, the sub series is distinct and has a very different, much larger fanbase. I think it would be better to implicate xeno and maintain a tag for xenoblade separately. I'll change my Bur to reflect that.

Ultimately while I prefer xenoblade_(series) over xenoblade_chronicles, I don't think it makes that much of a difference, and care more about just getting something done for the series.

Watsit was calling it the xeno metaverse, i’m with you with seperating the individual series.
