Topic: Feature Request: Creating a Forum Thread should automatically Subscribe you to it

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

e621's forum system is... weird. No denying it's a homebrew solution. But the first thing I've noticed while trying to use it is that I got no notifications about replies to my topic. I had to manually subscribe to it. This really should be the default.

Have you ever actually tried that "Subscribe" feature? If so then you'd find e-mail notifications take a long time to arrive. (( That's why I do not use it ))

... Well, Hmm, to be honest, We'd better expect requested Features by users to be rarely implemented, Even If it's useful and wanted by not a few users. Especially if the solutions are possible and easy, for the user :(

It's presumably because the coder will be having heavy works to write, test, and maintain for a long while. Moreover making "Subscribe" the default for every thread will increase the e621 server load.
Thus, the Features implemented are limited to those with high priority.
Don't think badly of me, please? As even I too have something on my mind about Feature Requests.

Why don't we take some better ways we users can?
Having bookmarks for the Forum top page or Threads on your browser will help you to visit them as soon as you want to.
Also browser extentions like Tab Reloader to not bother pressing F5.

Actually, on PC, There's another way to use RE621 made by bitWolfy , + Tampermonkey.
Manual subscribing is still required, but you can get more benefits with easier checking.

Updated

I didn't even get an email notification about this thread at all (it's been 9 hours since the last post), so yeah, I guess that's another bug.

e621 could use a general on-site notification system like other sites.

Try out the re621 extension
Its subscribe feature is pretty much what you want, I believe

Just to be sure, Your this setting is turned to "Yes"?:Your profile page >> Settings >> Receive email notifications >> Yes

That said, the email notification still took several hours, so I'm sure it's more convenient to use bookmarks or RE621. (( cf. Screenshot of RE621 subscribe feature ))

I got emails about subsequent replies to this thread after mine. I never got one about your first reply.

I'll give that a look, but obviously it would be better if such features were built into the site itself. The fact that it can be done with a userscript implies it wouldn't need a crazy amount of work to implement.
Edit: Wait... If re621 is written by an admin then that raises the question, why is this not just part of the website?

While I'm no expert in programming mumbo jumbo, I find it safe to assume that maintaining an external and oficial-third-party script is a lot easier/practical/efficient than working on a complex in-built site tool. Not to mention the bugs.

If the script breaks, oh well.
If the site breaks, oh fuck.

The system should probably also avoid sending email notifications out to the person who posted the reply, since that's a bit redundant. :)

Also, I made a separate topic for the email delays: topic #36621
