Topic: [APPROVED] [BUR] Sibling tags for translated_description

change category description_request (42) -> meta
change category description_check (3) -> meta
create implication description_check (3) -> description_request (42)

Reason: Currently there isn't really a good way to request/collaborate on translated descriptions, despite user interest indicating such tags should exist (one message on Discord asking how to get translation checks for descriptions, and various comments on similar topics).
This'll create a couple of tags to match the existing translation_check tags and implications.

The translated_description wiki should also be edited once some tags are decided upon.

I believe I've mentioned it before, or something like it, but I don't like the description_request tag. It sounds like the uploader or some random tagger is requesting some other random user to add their own description, to be all meme-like or requesting someone write a story/roleplay to the image. It's not clear at all that it's asking someone else to copy over the description from the source, or to translate a non-English description (which seem different enough that they should have their own tags instead of being under one umbrella tag; maybe have translation_request/translation_check apply to the description too?).

I wasn't expecting this to get approved in two minutes, but I did take advantage of it to get the hard translation BUR finished, so maybe something like this?

  • artist_description_request: posts lacking an artist description.
    • Some standard formatting like "(No artist commentary/description exists)" for posts where this is impossible?
  • description_translation_request: posts with a non-english description and requiring translation or translation review (same rules as translation_request.)
  • description_translation_check: posts with a description translation requiring review
  • partially_translated_description: Duh. Descriptions seem to trend on the short side when compared to in-image text (especially comics), though, so maybe this has limited utility.

Making the existing translation tags apply to the description seems like it might introduce issues if a post has good notes and a bad description translation, or vice-versa.

A bit long/wordy (it is a bit annoying when tags are so long they have to inherently wrap in the tag list), but it's a good enough start if no one can think of anything better.

If the image has some good and some bad notes, the same issue would apply. But I guess I can also see the argument that the description may not be known or copied over when the post itself is translated, so there would be benefits to keeping the status of the description's translation separate from the image's translation.

There's another issue here though. We'd also need to tag the language of the description, so people can find descriptions they're capable of translating. It's also possible the image itself may not have text while the description does. Using the existing x_text tags would be a problem since they imply text for the image, but creating a separate set of language tags for the description would be a hefty undertaking (and which many people and various auto-uploaders would probably neglect). I don't know the best way forward there.

My issue with using translation_check for both purposes is that somebody might give bad notes a pass because the description's fine, or vice versa. I could see a person incorrectly removing a text/description translation check, not even out of malice but because they got lazy with their checking.

Reason: More description-related tags. Crawled the existing text tags and tried to remove the fictional ones.

I wrote up a medium-ish post about whether to use english_description for natively english descriptions, for translations, or for both, but I decided it's probably better to resolve forum #353129/BUR #3767 first and then just copy what happens there.

After having had some time to think on it more and put up some elementary wikis, maybe there's a case for translated_description not implying english, separately from the hard translation stuff.

~english_description ~translated_description

: any english description.
english_description: any post with english from the artist/publisher.
translated_description -english_description: translator-only english descriptions.
translated_description english_description: translation of a non-english artist/publisher description, in addition to an english artist/publisher description (this'll probably happen more often with certain kinds of official_art.)

This might prompt mistags, so rename to official_english_description, maybe? Possibly make translated_english_description to match?

This would be the vast majority of posts that have a description, and seems unnecessary. It'd be like tagging eyes or face.
