Topic: Non-Second Life submissions using the tag second_life

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I tagged one of my own works with second_life just now, and did a search to see what else was using the tag. To my surprise, there was a lot of traditional art using the tag.

I can see the tag is marked as a 'copyright' so it's clear that the curators here know it's meant to represent the online platform Second Life.

Therefore, I wanted to ask if it's okay to remove the tag from art which has clearly been drawn and not rendered from the game? I assume people have simply misunderstood its purpose, but I don't have as much tag experience as you guys. On the bright side, there only appears to be two pages' worth of submissions using it, so it would be easy to judge and fix the majority of them with just a glance.

Screenshots are typically not allowed here, anyway.

I assume the drawings tagged with it are people drawing their characters in the game, but I've never played it so I don't know for sure.

There's some drawings that use Second Life as a background, those should keep the tag

Some are recognisable as certain SL avatars like the Blue Galaxy Solarian or Kemono

I'd say these aren't eligible for the tag, but only because they're third party creations on the platform. Things like the default werewolf are actually property of Linden Labs and therefore should probably be tagged second_life.

A lot of them should definitely have the tag removed because it's just the uploader saying "this is somebody from Second Life who commissioned me"

Proper SL snapshots are essentially like 3D renders (no UI is showing, etc.) so I think they're fine.

Yes, I agree with these observations. I'd say if the picture (or backdrop) wasn't rendered in SL itself, then it shouldn't be tagged (Tag What You See).

After tidying up some of the more obvious ones, it looks like we're now down to 74 submissions. Hopefully nobody will yell at me. :)
