rudder is an artist tag. This is because of a FurAffinity user who snagged that username. Want to take a guess at how many pictures with the tag were actually drawn by him?

According to FA, Rudder has exactly one other account: on Twitter, he instead goes by AugieOtt. I retagged all 3 posts (one of which seems to be a collab) with that.

As for the rest, the vast majority are simply mistagged otters. I encountered only one good-faith attempt to tag the object of that name (which wasn't even correct, the rudder is the thing at the opposite end of the ship).

There is another twist to the "tail", though. Looking through the removal log, there has been a previous large-scale removal of the tag, most of which were for pictures of aeromorphs showing their butts. So I guess that's another unconventional use of this poor word that we now have to come up with a replacement for.

Possibly an attempt to get around tagging tail on otters? It's unnecessary anymore with the revalidation of tail as a tag.

That seems like aeromorph and butt/presenting_butt would be sufficient to find. In fact, the picture you linked to doesn't even have an aircraft rudder in it, thus underscoring your point about the problems inherent with rudder as a tag.
