Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: conditional_dnp -> conditional_do_not_post

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #61250 conditional_dnp -> conditional_do_not_post has been rejected.

Reason: Staff discussion

Have you thought about changing the name of "conditional dnp" into "conditional do not post?" I think a lot of people don't get what dnp stands for, which could explain some of the numbers of daily cdnp that we have to deal with.

EDIT: The tag alias conditional_dnp -> conditional_do_not_post (forum #356875) has been rejected by @gattonero2001.

I think a better solution would be to split off the majority of DNP conditions, which are "only the artist is allowed to post", and rename it something more intuitive. To me, both the short name and the long one imply that there are some conditions under which you are allowed to post, which is not true 99% of the time.

You could also, you know, actually enforce the damn thing at the upload stage. There's no excuse now that you've finally implemented the ticks.

I'm not really sure how much this would actually help. Most people wrongly uploading CDNP content probably don't even check other posts by the artist first and see the "conditional_dnp" tag, they're most likely just uploading the content without checking anything first. The upload page still doesn't notify anybody about the fact the artist is DNP before uploading and whenever this idea is suggested it's usually shot down with arguments along the lines of "If people are stopped from uploading it, they'll just use unknown_artist instead to bypass it". If we really want people to be aware of what conditional DNP is we shouldn't be actively hiding it from people on the upload page.

On a technical side there's also numerous references to conditional_dnp in the site code that would need to be changed in line with the tag being aliased, plus some third party tools like re621.

BUT if we are renaming this we should also rename avoid_posting to do_not_post. avoid_posting has its origins in a time back where the old-old administration didn't give a shit about artists, allowed paysite content, didn't penalise anybody for uploading DNP content and only allowed the people who threatened legal action to go on the avoid posting list. It was only avoid because "We don't actively FORBID posting, but rather, try and discourage it."(source)

This has always been a major source of annoyance for me, artists already have exemption from their own DNP, so either "only the artist can post" should never be a CDNP condition or artists shouldn't be allowed to post their own content if they're DNP, but obviously that's not the good option.
