I've been thinking of increasing my exposure. I know for a while that a lot of porn artists promote their stuff on Twitter, but because of stuff that's been happening recently (or at least that I've heard is happening), I don't know if it'd be a good idea to create an account and promote myself there.

I mean, why not try?
Exposure is hard if you're not a meme expert (I don't even have 100 followers myself but that's my problem) but art is another way to gain traction.

If nothing else use it as a stepping stone for other sites. Cross-link it with your IB/FA/etc, then pin a sample to the top tweet.

Not getting traction is one thing, but I'm more afraid of unintentionally doing the wrong thing and/or pissing off the wrong people. I probably have no authority to say that given everything I knew about the site has been from hearsay, but at the very least I can ask what's really going on there before going myself.

Whatever you do, don't treat it like a gallery site, please. Twitter is adequate for promoting your material, but as your place for displaying and archiving your works for others to find and browse through at any time, it stinks.

I've always assumed that's what people do, e.g., they post stuff to their main gallery and Twitter at the same time. But if not, then what the hell do they use it for?

If they're Japanese, they usually post a gimped picture and a Fanbox link😣
It's hard to find good art from them either not paywalled or that they don't want put elsewhere.

Right, that takes care of what I need to do once I'm up on the site.

Still not very convinced if Twitter is actually not as bad as I've heard thing, userbase wise. Maybe I can make a throwaway account just to check.

Just be sure to filter the type of content you get on your timeline (TL). Twitter's algorithm will try to predict and post things on your timeline that you might like based on your likes and retweets. Unfortunately, it often doesn't get it right and will default to posting viral stuff on your TL, even if it's unrelated to your interests (for example: fight videos, Tesla/Elon/crypto related junk, violent stuff without a content warning, takes on topical stuff, politics, etc). Once you do that, and your TL is full of stuff that you actually enjoy, it's a much better experience overall.

Thanks, I think that'll help, although, I probably won't use Twitter to browse stuff just to avoid conflict. I'll just post drawings and remind people when commission is available.

This, this is why I don't consider Twitter a good place for artists or anyone else. And filtering doesn't help because a lot of artists and my friends post discussions about this shit themselves. I had to lock my account years ago because it was totally destroying my mental health.
