Topic: you can lick a BUR, and you can lick your nose, but you can't something something

The bulk update request #4296 is pending approval.

create alias licking_nose (159) -> nose_lick (112)
create alias nose_licking (0) -> nose_lick (112)
create implication nose_lick (112) -> licking (141836)
create alias licking_own_nose (11) -> auto_nose_lick (0)
create alias self_nose_lick (0) -> auto_nose_lick (0)
create implication auto_nose_lick (0) -> nose_lick (112)
create implication auto_nose_lick (0) -> self_lick (20182)

Reason: For consistency with existing aliases. I don't personally care whether the latter half uses auto_nose_lick or some other format, but that's how breasts and balls already work, and who am I to twist them around?

We don't normally do this for "auto" tags (auto_penis_lick doesn't imply penis_lick, autofootjob doesn't imply footjob, etc).

Are you sure that's actually policy and not just some missing implications? The formal separation between "verbing body part" and "verbing own body part" didn't come about until relatively recently, IIRC.

Yes, because autofootjob/etc implies masturbation, while footjob/etc implies sex. If the auto- tag implied the non-auto- tag, it would cause masturbation acts to be tagged as sex. I've had to clean up a number of posts where a character licking their own penis was tagged penis_lick (or sucking their own penis being tagged fellatio, etc), resulting in the post being tagged sex when it was just the one character masturbating. I presume it was kept separate to more easily find when one character does it to another, otherwise it would be difficult to search for such images ("nose_lick" would have a bunch of results of a character licking their own nose, while "nose_lick -auto_nose_lick" would exclude images of a character licking someone else's nose if a character was also licking their own nose).

Why isn't this a problem for all of the *_on_own_* tags that imply their respective *_on_*?

The only tags I can think of like that are for nouns rather than verbs. cum_on_own_chest implying cum_on_chest, for example, is only indicating the presence of cum on a character's chest, not the act of cumming on a chest. cum_on_chest is also used when the cum is from an unknown source (i.e. not enough context to tell if it's their own or someone else's).

You said the (presumed) point of this separation was to make searching specifically for self vs other easier. That point shouldn't depend on the tag being phrased with a noun vs a verb. Any of the licking tags could be renamed tongue_on_*/tongue_on_own_*. The question I actually care about is what relationships make the tags most useful and least confusing.
