Topic: Suicide tags BUR

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #4672 is pending approval.

create alias implied_suicide (28) -> imminent_suicide (74)
create alias suicidal (28) -> imminent_suicide (74)
create implication suicide_bomber (12) -> suicidal_threat (0)
create alias suicidal_gesture (1) -> suicidal_threat (0)
create alias suicidal_ideation (35) -> suicidal_threat (0)
create implication suicide_note (5) -> suicidal_threat (0)
create alias suicide_attempt (55) -> attempted_suicide (25)
create implication accidental_death (51) -> death (17773)
create implication ritual_suicide (5) -> suicide (555)
create implication assisted_suicide (5) -> suicide (555)
create implication accidental_suicide (0) -> accidental_death (51)

Reason: These aliases could be done manually due to the small number, but I think these are necessary due to the topic. I designed this around making it easy as possible to tag so people can avoid this topic now and in the future if they so desire.

To-do if approved

Notes

The main thing here is suicide is not implied to death, so I'm using it to cover anyone that has taken steps towards suicide but is not dead yet (EX: Somebody who has cut their wrists, but has not died yet) or has taken their own life as the current definition says. Whatever posts don't feature a dead person I can just add imminent_death to when approved.

I went back and forth on implying suicide_bomber to imminent_suicide or suicidal_threat and landed on the latter because I thought bomb vests can be triggered manually, so it's not necessarily about to explode in every image.

POST edit: Missed one fix in implied_suicide
BUR Edit: Removed "alias accidental_suicide -> accidental_death"
BUR Edit 2: Added "imply accidental_suicide -> accidental_death"

I don't like this one since implied suicide can be after or during it happening, while imminent_suicide is strictly before the attempt. At least three of posts I see with implied_suicide are also tagged suicide, and a (non-sequential/animated) post can't be both imminent_x and x as imminent_x indicates x has not yet happened.

This one doesn't seem right either, since accidental_death can also include murder/homicide, not just suicide.

Whoops, missed one in implied_suicide for my to-do list, thank you for that. I actually disagree and think it should be kept as it is. Your examples you listed here fall underneath suicide as it's described later down my post if it does not come underneath imminent_suicide, and I think putting it like I am here will lead to less mis-tagging which is my primary objective.

I don't get the problem. I'm aliasing suicide -> death, not the other way around. You don't have the intent to kill yourself with an accident, and if you did then it should just be tagged suicide.

Aliasing replaces one tag with another, so whenever someone tries to tag accidental_suicide, that tag will be removed and replaced with accidental_death. So people who have an issue with depictions of suicide but are fine with depictions of homicide won't be able to separate them when it's accidental.

EDIT: Actually, you make a point, if I'm trying to stick this to "easy as possible tags". Technically it should still be labeled death and get something like noose but these things do not happen in practice and will lead to people who are uncomfortable with the subject to seeing suicidal depictions so i'll actually remove this line, and keep the implication to death for accidental_death

Having accidental_suicide imply accidental_death would make sense, presuming there was also a tag like accidental_homicide or something.
