Topic: [REJECTED] Tag implication: battle_for_dream_island -> object_shows

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

this feels a bit of an unorthodox tag, bordering on invalid, but... at the same time, I'd be lying if I said it wouldn't be kinda nice to just be able to blacklist one tag to avoid seeing anything BFDI-adjacent.

Object shows are often viewed as all sort of together from a fandom lens. That's probably why the tag exists in the first place, though I'm not sure if that's justification enough for it to exist. I would be okay with it just being deleted.

EDIT: I think a reason that people view them together is because almost every object show is very similar. They are almost always shows about animate objects competing for a prize in a competition format with viewer participation. It goes beyond just having the same kind of characters.

Updated

I have seen these sorts of images before, but never realized that there were so many separate franchises that were so similar.
I'm with darryus on making it easier to blacklist, since there is a sort of style to object_shows that is not present in non-object_shows animate_inanimate, and it's one I dislike and would like to blacklist myself. Compare these two images:

However, I am unsure if "object_shows" is the best name for the tag. I can't think of anything better, though.
Also, this should have been a BUR to imply all 7 of the tags mentioned on the object_shows wiki page to it at the same time.

You can't just go "compare these two images" and expect everybody to come to the same conclusion as you. Far as I can tell, the point of contention is that the Switch dog is an anthro while the balls are the rough equivalent of waddling heads, when an artist interpretation can change these things.

This implication still doesn't appear to achieve anything valuable.

I mean, we also have the vtuber tag which could also be considered sort of an nebulous term, we have several copytags whose definition is essentially "is part of x trend", we also do it with memes and several other things as well.

create implication bluey_(series) (1497) -> dog_show (0)
create implication blue's_clues (258) -> dog_show (0)
create implication dog_with_a_blog (6) -> dog_show (0)
create implication martha_speaks (171) -> dog_show (0)
create implication paw_patrol (1384) -> dog_show (0)

Reason: Adding implications for copyright tags for absolutely no reason beyond the fact that they feature similar characters.

#1. There are 0 posts to what you're implying to. It's not a valid tag to start with. The tag you're objecting to, however, has many posts already.
#2. Before it was called battle for dream island, its working name was object show. I don't know who decided the word was meant for a genre.

It's not too late to alias this tag to "virtual avatar", I still think this is more general and better overall.

This is genuinely a fair point and my first reply would've probably been much different if somebody had established this from the get-go.

Apparently you didn't notice that BUR #42069 doesn't actually exist (you can't even vote on it), so I will now overexplain in laborious detail.

Unless you want to suggest an object_show → bfdi alias, calling it out as a working name is neat but ultimately irrelevant.

The entire reason I posted a fake BUR that doesn't exist was to establish just how absolutely ridiculous the implication seemed.
I also didn't buy the earlier comment on "style" because there is no consistent and permanent style that can be effectively communicated by an implication. There's every reason for people to start making sexy tennis balls/golf balls with no apparent relation to any object_show.

If there is a need for people to blacklist or discover characters of this nature, an object_show implication will not achieve that. Looking at TVTropes's page on object shows, and the earlier comparison to vtubers, though, I do feel more comfortable with the implication, but object_show is in desperate need of a BUR if this is something people want.

I agree, a series with a lot of very similar copycat series would benefit from collective tag, especially for series as divisive as bfdi. That said, I don't think object_shows is the best tag name for that. It's too easy for it to confuse people who read it as plain English like Lafcadio did, and like I did when I first saw this thread. I'd support this if it gets a more descriptive name and/or a better wiki to explain what an object show is for people unfamiliar with the concept.
