Topic: Growing Notes limit?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I dunno if this has been talked before, But can we get a feature, like the upload limit, that grows for notes? I'm really getting tired of needing to wait another hour for my limit to refresh when i do massive projects like i am right now. https://e621.net/pools/34649

I'm fully aware how much more difficult it is to moderate notes, and the feature might not work as well, so alternatively, is there a permission to grant unlimited or at least decreasing the time limit/increase the hourly limit itself? one that doesn't include raising the user's level at least?

+1 for some sort of change. I'm not all that active with translating nowadays (hopefully that can change someday), but I remember the note edit limit could be a pain in the neck whenever trying to translate a comic all at once. I'd say implementing a way to manually give trustworthy translators (particularly, ones who have worked on comics) an increased or unlimited note edit limit would be nice.

While it's not a problem for me anymore, I'm still heading much of e621's translation/note-related mod efforts. I understand the need to have a separate note edit limit and I would also like for admins to be able to edit an account's note limit separately from their account level.

Probably more complicated, but having it apply to just the same pool would be handy? Like, if you're translating comics in a pool, they get a softer limit that only gets hit as you try to leave notes for stuff outside the pool?

Admins being able to increase individuals note limits and post changes would be ideal, the limits are there to prevent abuse but there's no reason to penalise users who have done nothing but contribute good edits. If they're hitting the limits, they're likely working hard.

The biggest problem with this is that the upload limit grows with approved posts, where there's no concept of an approved note, so it would just be able to grow infinitely. Maybe it could take something else into consideration, like only counting note edits that are over a week old? You'd hope that note vandalism would get detected before it can be used to boost the hourly count even further.

It's also worth noting that the increasing upload limit is actually only for how many unapproved uploads that you can have, not an hourly rate limit. Everybody (including admins) is still restricted to 30 uploads per hour, regardless of their upload limit.

Bypassing the post changes and note edit throttles is part of the privileged rank, but staff don't really like giving that out often (only 49 privileged and 11 contributors)

Yeah, that's the obvious issue. which is why the alternative ask from me.

Huh, that i did not know. What sane person does 31 uploads an hour?

Which is why i asked a non level raising permission, like how rainbow dash gave me replacements and only that. this could maybe apply to other aspects too, like comments or tag edits.

Bumping this, i'd just like to say that this thread may have fallen into somewhat deaf ears.

I kinda feel bad that all this resulted was me getting privlidged.

I'd still like to request for new custom permissions without an account level upgrade as i said: (unlimited notes, unlimited tag/wiki edits) etc.

People like crocogator, tsukileaf, and vortexter, they deserve unlimited notes. And i still wanna continue advocating for it.

I don't really think this has necessarily fallen on deaf ears, with the exception of the occasional pull request from the community Earlopain is pretty much the only e621 developer. It takes a long time to respond to all of the feature request threads, as well as actually implement the long backlog of required features.

Not to discredit the idea, but looking at these users' long history of contributions, the three of them should probably be promoted to privileged anyway. I'd make a commendation ticket myself, but I don't have the Japanese knowledge to personally endorse their translations.

Granular permissions are great, and we'll likely add more as we go, but right now it's not at the top of the priority list.
