I think it's best to leave these single-word tag names suffixed.

Is there any reason you're using mass updates instead of aliases? A mass update won't prevent people from using the tag again in the future, and anyone who uses the existing tag in a search or their blacklist, won't update automatically.

This is part of the reason that we break up BURs like this into sections per category/group, normally... You can have as many BURs on a topic as you want.

Mostly personal retardation. There were a lot of things I misunderstood, like the exact purpose of the Forum Topic field. Had I known what that did these would have been put under a single thread and split into smaller groups of related tags. I was also under the mistaken belief that characters with unique names unlikely to be associated with others didn't need disambiguation. Though it raises the question as to why tags like toriel and midna are not disambiguated.
