I'm fairly new to posting things here and I was trying to upload a character that doesn't have a defined species. I labelled it as "original_species" but it's labelling it instead as "invalid_tag". Is there a different tag I'm supposed to be using?

original species isn't a valid tag since it contradicts TWYS: there would be relatively little visual similarities between your species and someone else's, other than coincidental ones. instead, we have wiki pages that can denote original species. you can click the ? next to your species' tag on a post, and be sent to it's wiki page that, if blank, will link you to an edit page so you can create a page for it. from there, you can specify that they're an original species created by you, as well as add any other details you see fit.

One problem with that is that I've got alot of characters that straight up have no species... they're just interesting one off designs that I haven't yet fleshed out at all. What do I do for those?

If you find nothing else the last resort is unknown_species. The description of the tag even says it is usable for one-of-a-kind designs.
