Topic: Alising couch_sex to on_sofa

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #5318 is pending approval.

remove implication couch_sex (7) -> sex (1024954)

Reason: I know compound tags are sometimes useful, but this one doesn't seem particularly useful imo. The vast majority of on_sofa sex is characters fucking on couches. Plus do we really want to have tags for sex on every surface?
This could be aliased to either on_sofa or sex, I lean towards on_sofa. Have to unimply first for the alias to work correctly

After:
alias couch_sex -> on_sofa

I see nothing wrong with a tag like this existing. It doesn't get mistagged does it?
The one scenario where it could be useful is where a character has sex, but there is also a couch with someone sitting on it watching, so searching sex and on_sofa together would not work in that case. With bs like panther being aliased to pantherine rendering searching for panthers impossible and a huge mess and the software still not supporting any logic gate which would make searching so much easier "(foo && bar) aux -foo" I do not really support this.

probably should have stopped at "Sometimes Useful" meaning there is a use for it I think

There are some compound tags that deserve to be nuked, but it ain't this one.

Did Cloudpie modify the BUR or did I hallucinate it? I thought they tried to alias the tag.

Well, this is even worse then. This tag implicates sex for a reason.

They made an alias. I would be fine with an implication but that's not the case.

My intention was to alias it to on_sofa, but since it currently implies sex, that implication would need to be removed first so that on_sofa doesn't end up implying sex.

I still honestly don't think this tag is useful enough to keep since the vast majority of a search for the two tags it compounds is the same as this tag, but since so many others disagree, I guess people like it after all lol. It should imply on_sofa then and be renamed to sofa_sex to match other sofa tags, if it is to be kept.

IMO compound tags are only worth it when a search for the two tags it compounds returns a significant amount of incorrect results (which is not the case for sex on_sofa, take a look, it's almost entirely sex on sofas). A line has to be drawn somewhere or else we could have an infinite number of compound tags. I'm not an admin though lol so I'm curious about an official ruling on compound tag rules.

For some reason "couch sex" sounds more natural to me than "sofa sex", so I'd prefer renaming on_sofa to on_couch.

That would involve renaming all sofa tags to couch, and there are kind of a lot.

What about renaming it to sex_on_sofa? It's more clear, I think

Couches are commonly sexed-upon, but it's also an unconventional place to have sex. I assume that it's much more common than table sex or chair sex because it's comfortable and can accommodate both sitting and prone positions.

I would be for renaming it, but there there is one tag, casting_couch, which works better with couch specifically rather than sofa. Unless there's a reason to keep sofa then I'd be in favour of renaming but the opposite way.

Casting couch is ok because that's a common phrase. It's not even referring to the couch in particular, it's the name of a porn trope. Is couch sex a common phrase? I don't think so but maybe I'm wrong

So are we really going to have compound tags for every possible surface that could be fucked on? Lol. Table_sex has a little usage already, I guess.

Googling "couch sex" brings up about 13 million results, while "sofa sex" yields around 11 million. However, the results for "couch sex" seems to bring up more actual uses of the term by things like articles discussing the concept, whereas most of the "sofa sex" results are just for things like searches on porn sites.

It is pretty important to keep tag wording consistent though. Wouldn't sex_on_sofa work?
