The bulk update request #5359 is pending approval.
remove alias swim_briefs (0) -> swimming_trunks (5634)
Reason: Speedo is a trademarked term; the generic name is "swim briefs". For some reason, swim_briefs is currently aliased to swimming_trunks, even though those aren't the same thing. So we'll have to remove that alias first, followed by
alias speedo -> swim_briefsUpdated
+1 for this stage, but we have so many other tags including the word "speedo" that I think swim_briefs would be better aliased the other way. See what eventually happened to pull-ups_(diaper).

Is it a general policy that terminology used in many tags shouldn't be changed?

No, but it is a general policy that we should use the most obvious and widely-known terminology for things, and trademarks do not factor into that calculation.
