Topic: [FEATURE] Prevent accidental reports

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I’m noticing that a there are many users here who accidentally use the report button when replying to a comment. Here are some tickets that show this:

ticket #132198
ticket #132196
ticket #132193
ticket #132176
ticket #132168

These are only from the last 48 hours (as of making this forum post), so imagine how many of such tickets there are in total.

Perhaps it’s a good idea to make the report button more obvious for users to prevent accidental reports.

Some sites use a flag icon to reoprt content. Would that work better?

Ps: Don't forget to add "[FEATURE]" before the title of this post. Move the post to the right forum for feature requests.

Thanks for the ‘[FEATURE]’ suggestion

A flag icon? Do you mean something like these?

It could help make the reply button stand out more, but it does seem a bit small. If we’re going through with this flag idea, then it must be a unicode character (as seen above), not an image icon.

The unicode numbers for the flags are U+2690 and U+2691

Yes please. So many of our reports are just replies. We even made a response template it happens so often.

I still say the obvious solution for dealing with this would be to update the comment and forum report forms to include a mandatory reason dropdown, same as the post one. That will force people to stop and think.

.forum-post div.content-menu li:nth-child(2n):not([class]) {
    float: right; font-size:80%;
}

Move the Report and Hide buttons away from Reply and Edit, make them smaller.

Just replying to show my support for this suggestion. Hope that's ok.
