Topic: flag and deletion bug

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

So i saw this bug happen to me that one of my posts got flagged and deleted for being a copy or worst version of the other post even though the image was the same and my version came before so im wondering if anyone else had this happen to them and is it really normal for that to happen

It's not a bug; post flags are reviewed by real people.
Here's the version you uploaded: Size: 577x680 (42.8 KB)
Here's the version that replaced yours: Size: 3108x3661 (939 KB)

thanks even though i dont understand it because we used the same source and shit but okay i undestand atleast why it was replaced in basic

They both came from the same Twitter source, but Twitter provides multiple different sizes of the same image.

You uploaded: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F-hdxKiaIAA_nMq?format=jpg&name=small
They uploaded: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F-hdxKiaIAA_nMq?format=jpg&name=orig

If you upload by URL on the uploader instead of uploading the file, there are some steps taken to try and prevent sample images from being uploaded.

Yes you downloaded from the small version of the image

ok thats pretty lame

it's not your fault. twitter is very lame as an image host for multiple reasons, and imo the random resizing of images even after opening it in a different tab is the most baffling

fortunately there's a userscript which automatically changes any twitter image to redirect to the =orig version

if for whatever reason you can't use userscripts; you'll just have to manually change the very end to =orig every time you want to download an image for twitter

Be aware though that even the orig version may be resized. Going along with the "twitter is very lame as an image host", if an artist tries to upload a lossless PNG image, Twitter will almost always recompress it to a lossy JPG and sometimes resize it to have a width or height of 2048, and there's no way to get the true original image from Twitter that the artist uploaded in that case. It also has a 4096 pixel cap on the width or height. If an artist has other galleries, like Itaku, there may be a better version of the image there. Pixiv is also a better source if the art doesn't have genitals (or the artist didn't censor it, which they're supposed to do there but sometimes they don't), or FurAffinity if the artist uploaded it as a PNG (a lossless PNG is generally preferred over a lossy JPG, even if it's smaller). DeviantArt may be good if the artist enabled the download option (and it doesn't have the DA watermark).

There's no getting around having to find where the artist is uploading to, and figuring out which provides the best version of the image.

Because of 'helpful' software replacing images with 'bandwidth-saving' versions, or because of people tending to use (JPEG, often upscaled) screenshots of PNGs?
