Wikipedia does seem to recognize it as a type of ellipsis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsis#Programming_languages.
Should be an alias, IMO. "Shortened" is a relative qualifier, but an ellipsis doesn't have a defined length, making it a vague adjective.
