Topic: Is there some etiquette in regards to posting images I commissioned?

Posted under General

I've commed a number of things, some even from artists whose stuff is posted within hours of it being posted on their other socials, but the stuff I comm I don't see posted here.
At first I assumed it was because people didn't like it as much as I first thought, but I'm starting to wonder if there's some other reason... mainly that unless I specifically say it's fine, it'd be left to me to post the things I commissioned?

Anything you have commissioned is fine to post, as long as it follows the uploading guidelines and isn't by a DNP artist, unless you have a written permission from them, of course.

That's good to know, though I meant in regards to OTHER people posting stuff I comm.
As in, I comm a thing, the artist posts it publicly (with my permission), and then someone else that isn't me or the artist comes along and posts it to e6 or r34 or whatever other image-posting sites.

I stick to a personal rule "if the artist is posted here, I'll feel free to post my commission from them here"

If I were to post from an artist new to this site, I'd want to ask for their permission first. Etiquette, you know.

It's not a hard rule, but I do think some people are wary of posting art someone else commissioned.

Sort of a "first dibs" mindset.

In general if the art contains a character of the commissioners, I'll be wary about posting it, especially if that character isn't in other images on the site. Far from a hard rule, though.

Typically, people just repost whatever they like without considering the opinions of those involved (i.e., artist, commissioner, character owner, etc.).
In regards to your own commissions, it could just be that your commission is not visually appealing enough, they just haven't gotten to it yet, or simply missed it. I wouldn't read too much into it though.

On other occasions, it may just be from an artist under Conditional DNP status, whereby only a select criteria of people/content are allowed to be reposted here.

Another possible and more complex reason, which is highly dependent on artist's posting behaviour, is that people are just waiting for the highest quality version to be posted.
If you had posted what you found immediately without considering the quality, then there is a high chance that your post may get deleted and replaced by a better higher-quality version (see BVAS ).
This is commonly seen with people reposting straight from FA (which shrinks initial uploads to 1280x1280) or from Twitter (which is downsized/compressed) (see sites and sources ).
Only way to avoid this is to wait for a "favourable source" that the artist posts to, or to just ask for the highest quality version from the artists themselves.

So... unless they're on the DNP list, it should be okay to post all the stuff I've commed, and it's probably nothing to read into that people aren't uploading my stuff?
...I'm gonna be busy...

Yeah! You could post your commissioned art here yourself, no issue :)

It should be fine for you to post your commissions here, but I would go the extra mile to ask the artist about reposting their artworks onto e621 first. Depending on their Terms of Service for commissions, they often do retain the right of redistribution.

I know some artists do get fed up about their works being reposted here without their permission, to the point they request a mass takedown of all their works from the site (even those posted by commissioners). That's how artists end up on the DNP list.

Of course, this is entirely optional and is not required by the rules when posting here. But since this thread is about posting etiquette, that's how I would have done it.

even those posted by commissioners This is worse if they didn't outright state that restriction to the commissioners. Yeah, I've recommended to artists I contacted on FA/IB to state it explicitly, so character owners don't have to worry.
