Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: mcyt -> invalid_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #67811 mcyt -> invalid_tag has been approved.

Reason: This tag is a useless umbrella tag for any Minecraft content on YouTube. It is basically a mini-video games. The images under this tag are usually fine without a copyright tag, or can be tagged with a more specific copyright tag, such as QSMP, Dream SMP or Hermitcraft.

EDIT: The tag alias mcyt -> invalid_tag (forum #395538) has been approved by @slyroon.

Actually, hold on, would moving to invalid category be a better option, perhaps, so it's easier to make sure images that get tagged this have the tag replaced with an applicable copyright tag if one exists?

Nah, it's fine, I already added applicable copyright tags to images anyways

I think this might be the best method because there are often valid replacements, like dream smp/hermitcraft/etc. But I totally agree this tag is not valid

I don't think the few cases where mcyt is tagged and none of those are despite being applicable is enough to warrant letting mcyt continue on in the Invalid category. People will keep tagging it and require continuous removal, without anything to replace it with.

Yeah, in hindsight it wasn't as bad as I was expecting (I had gone through and cleaned up the tags on a whole bunch of posts, because they were kind of a mess, but not for this reason.)

I think there were only a few applicable posts that didn't already have their copyright tags, like these, which in that case I just added the appropriate tag:

Funnily enough it was more of the opposite, I had to remove dream smp from a lot of posts that had nothing to do with it other than having a single member with no indication of the server's setting or characters. Like, it'd be tagged because someone put Dream in the background of an image or something. That tag is a hell of a lot more accurate now for a copyright tag, rather than just being "those Minecraft guys".

Bump, and put this on the wiki page:

"Minecraft YouTubers" is not a valid copyright tag on its own. Instead, please use a more specific series tag if applicable, such as dream_smp, qsmp, or hermitcraft.

If no series copyright is applicable, then a copyright tag is not necessary for the post and a character tag will suffice. (Example: post #2700616)

Mild tangent - This has been driving me batty for a bit because I've been trying to upload more art from these series, as there's a lot of really good site-relevant art related to them such as these gorgeous promotional images for rats_smp and the vast pool of high-quality qsmp fanart.

This weird umbrella tag appears to mostly be the work of one user who's now banned for being underage, unsurprisingly.
