what if they just have big bellies from eating/inflating and dont have any actual visible traits of fat

it's "tag what you see" or "TWYS, " you tag based on the content in the current image being displayed. if at the time the character looks overweight then it will be tagged overweight. it doesn't matter how they got to that state based on other posts that lead up to it.

pool: rakeesh commission

and if it was a multi image page that shows the inflation / transformation / expansion through series of events in a long image where the end result would show an "overweight" character, then the entire post would have the tag overweight

it's also good the use the TWYS system along with something like "Tag What You Remember," so if there were any characters that looked overweight but you can't remember if it was through transformation or natural causes, it's best to add overweight as that is something many users would remember

i do think some posts with big bellies from inflation, vore, pregnancy etc. arent overweight, and theres no other signs of being fat. imo from these visual distinctions, only having a big belly shouldnt count for the overweight tags.

take this piece of work for example. big belly from vore but they have a regular body otherwise

i also think its more helpful to not tag overweight on these. while there can be some overlap between people who like the body fat tags and the other tags involving big bellies, they are distinct enough where tagging overweight on these posts wont be very great for those searching for it

Don't tag stuff like that overweight. If it doesn't look overweight but instead looks like a bag or balloon is attached to their front, don't tag it.

Not unless the character appears to be overweight beyond their enlarged belly

For example...

The left image is obviously a skinny character with a prey bloated belly, the right image is clearly an overweight character who has also eaten someone.
