Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: chibifur -> chibi

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #70075 chibifur -> chibi has been approved.

Reason: created a short while after the aliasing of the tdm tag, with this tag having a similarly vague definition.

despite the wiki stating:

This tag is not to be used for just any furry character depicted in a chibi style. The art must fit the specific aesthetics of Chibifur characters.

the tag seems to be pretty much just chibi furry characters with no real consistent theme or aesthetic.

certified one-guy tag.

EDIT: The tag alias chibifur -> chibi (forum #403372) has been approved by @slyroon.

I sent a dmail to this user about this the other day because I also noticed that they made cybercore which almost entirely is covered by other tags like frutiger_aero, futuristic or cyberpunk.

This user has been helpful in populating some of the tags I created without me asking them, but they also seem to have a habit of making very loosely defined tags for terms that aren't established and then filling them with hundreds of posts.

Chibifur in particular seems to come back to this Tumblr post: https://straitjacketzz.tumblr.com/post/710026461197877248/please-make-more-chibifurs/

It does seem to be referring to a more specific type of chibi but it's not an established term, just like with TDM.

I don't think a user creating and populating a tag on their own is an issue, I'd be a hypocrite if I did, but it does become an issue when it's a vaguely defined term that is still barely established outside of e621.

the "one-guy tag" thing is just to say that a tag is only being used by a single user and no one else has found it useful enough to also add it to posts. with something being the second entry on the quick-complete dropdown next to a fairly populated tag like chibi, lacking any support by other users is not a great sign for its overall usefulness.

Yeah, to be clear, I wasn't saying your wording was wrong at all, I was agreeing with you. Just had some thoughts because like I said, I had dmailed them about the redundant and vaguely defined tags they were creating the other day.

Bump, it looks like this tag has been used a little bit more... but only to add it to random chibi furry art that isn't even the style/trope the term is supposed to refer to

i remember the same person coining this term in twitter, not really a huge fan how it's too forced for me to the furry fandom aspect, unlike sparklefur.

last time, someone replied to the post and found very synonmous trope known as ridiculously cute critter. i've explored tvtrope pages of characters featured in the tumblr post and almost all of them fall to this trope. another one is carbuncle creature but for calumon
