Topic: Copyright request to meta

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I think I once asked this on the Discord - what is the purpose of copyright request?

How would you know that the post has a relevant copyright tag without knowing the copyright? With characters and species it's immediately obvious that there's a character or a species in an image.

I'd imagine branding and stuff like that?

Sometimes you know but don't remember the name. Also cosplay, meme copyright tags, brands, etc

For example I added it to these because I know they're cosplay, but I don't know what they're from:

Also these type of giant multi-copyright images:

Sometimes even, an artist will just say something is fanart but not say from what.

Lot of potential uses, really! At first glance it seems odd but when you really think about it there's a lot of use cases.

Updated

Bump because I've been adding this whenever I come across a post with branding I know is from a real world thing but don't know the name of

Watsit

Part of me thinks the *_request tags should be in the category they're requesting information for. To make it more obvious the copyright/species/etc is missing and making it more apparent to remove when it's set. unknown_artist works that way, which is effectively artist_request.

The issue is, that messes up searches for copytags:0, chartags:0, etc.

I mean, wouldn't that make more sense, then? the people who want to avoid brands or copyrighted characters/OCs/whatever would also want to avoid them if they're in a post just not identified...

I use those searches mostly for finding stuff that's missing tags, so IDK.
