Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: sakura -> cherry_blossom

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #70279 sakura -> cherry_blossom has been rejected.

Reason: Sakura is another word for the cherry blossom.

There were a couple of ambiguous taggings for characters, but not enough to warrant making the tag a disambiguation I think. 200+ posts and it's almost entirely referring to cherry blossoms. I just manually removed or retagged the odd ones out.

EDIT: The tag alias sakura -> cherry_blossom (forum #404374) has been rejected by @Nimphia.

mass update sakura -> cherry_blossom

Reason: Does this work? It really should at least be mass updated since it shouldn't currently have any posts that aren't cherry blossom related. Don't know if I can do that and alias in the same BUR.

Also huh, apparently the disambiguation already exists. Weird.

I'd recommend against having them together in the same BUR. There's no guarantee the two will be executed in that order, so you could end up updating maybe a handful at best and end up stuffing the rest in sakura_(disambiguation) because the alias went through before the update finished, which would then require all of them to be manually cleaned up after all. It's better to have the alias be another BUR.

Edited, then :)

With Sakura being a very common name for characters and people a disambiguation makes a lot of sense to me.

Not to detract from generally good advice, but actually all the posts will be mass updated to the correct tag, but some of the posts will end up in both locations.

But yeah I highly recommend against putting them in the same BUR if the tags have a sizeable number of posts

If you see a disambiguation tag in the invalid category without any aliases to it, its very likely that @gattonero2001 changed it, through what I believe was a bulk category change of all *_(disambiguation) to invalid. See here for why I think it's that
