Reason: I'm making a request to turn the engineer tag into a disambiguation page as it could refer to more then few things such as:

1. A job profession.
2. An alien species from the alien film franchise, Engineers are also known as Pilots, Space Jockeys, Ossians or Mala'kak.
3. A character from Team Fortress 2.
4. A character from Factorio.
5. A character from Risk of Rain.
6. A character from Deep Rock Galactic.
7. A character from Pokemon

This might be excessive? The Factorio and TF2 characters still look like regular engineers, and there's only a handful of mistags otherwise (all from the Alien species).

I propose that the tag for the job profession be engineer_(profession)? There isn't much precedent to follow

Would a tag for the profession really work? I can perhaps see a tag for the act of engineering, but tagging someone as an engineer doesn't really fit TWYS. Also "engineer" is a rather generic concept, it's defined as "One who is trained or professionally engaged in a branch of engineering." with engineering being "the practice of using natural science, mathematics, and the engineering design process to solve technical problems, increase efficiency and productivity, and improve systems." It ranges from a software engineer (programmer) to a mechanical engineer (someone who designs mechanical devices) or an electrical engineer (someone who works with electrical systems).

You can apply that type of thinking to all the profession tags like doctor or captain, but that doesn't mean the tag can't be useful or accurately tagged

you might be taking the devil's advocate shtick a touch too far

honestly, captain is a bit vague, what actually is it for?
doctor is fine, we are applying it specifically to medical professionals who generally do have a pretty distinct set of "uniforms" and not, like, anyone with a PhD.

Yeah, captain can be largely split into pirate and a tag for naval attire.

You can infer that someone engaged in the act of engineering is an engineer by definition (or at least as far as TWYS is concerned, we can assume so), so that probably works fine as a tag.
