I don't think two letter aliases are a good idea.

Ro is also the name of various characters and at least three other artists.

As a fan artist of ro's characters, I'd like to give my opinion on the matter. I apologize if my response isn't appropriate here, I don't usually post, comment, or hang around the forums so I don't really know the etiquette around here.
Fair warning, it's pretty long and my suggestions would possibly just make tagging ro/nyankone even more convoluted.
tldr:
ro is the name of the artist.
nyankone is the name of ro's circle.
nyankone should be tagged as copyright, not artist.
illustrations by ro should be tagged as ro.
original characters belonging to ro should also be tagged as nyankone (imo).

ro always introduces themselves as ro rather than nyankone in their support sites. Exhibit 1a | Exhibit 1b ("roです！" -> This is ro!)
When ro draws something for work (e.g: a video game ), a commission, or a collaboration, he is almost always credited as ro rather than nyankone. e.g: AnthroMate ("ro先生" -> ro-sensei. Use DeepL or GoogleTL).
So, in my opinion, ro should be the proper Artist tag.

nyankone is the name of ro's circle. ro uses nyankone when he releases his original doujin works. nyankone is also the name of his support sites (fanbox, fantia, etc.)
ro has also used nyankone on more than one occasion as the name of the country, kingdom, and/or world of his original works in which his original characters belong. (I can't show examples here because of paywalls but this illustration is one of the Princess of nyankone, Princess Lana (プリンセスラナ)).
Even then, ro still presents himself as ro in his own doujins. Not nyankone. .

On that note, however, I'd like to suggest we also keep the nyankone tag as a copyright tag to note ro's original characters.

When ro draws his original characters, such as Himeka-chan, I would say it is accurate to tag it as both ro and nyankone.
When ro draws characters belonging to other people or IPs, such as AnthroMate , Diona, or Mei Marzipan , it would be accurate to tag it as ro, since it is ro's illustration, but not nyankone, since those characters do not belong to ro.

So, I would suggest we add a separate tag for [nyankone] as a copyright for ro's original works.

Now I just wanted to say that I understand that not every single creator's OC and OC world needs to get a separate dedicated tag. We'd be here all day if that were the case.
But as a fan-artist myself of ro's original characters, I would very much appreciate it if there was a tag that tags my artwork of ro's original characters as related to ro's original works.
Of course, I could just tag that particular character in the fan-art. It would work great for characters like Himeka-chan , Min-chan , Rue-chan , etc. but I don't know if I should add a character tag to ro's one-off characters. Instead I think it would be better to have a single tag that can signal the tag-less characters to specifically belong to ro.

I myself will admit that it is indeed a lot easier to search for nyankone instead of ro when I want to find ro's work when searching on websites like DLsite.
But you can see for yourself here that ro's own original work is under the circle name of nyankone while works that he was only the illustrator is credited as ro and not nyankone .
On e6 though, I had always searched for ro instead of nyankone and I would prefer it if the tag was still ro. (This is actually how I found about the tag change and this topic.)

Personally, I think the distinction between ro (the artist) and nyankone (the circle) to be important.
If the two letter alias is too much of a problem then I would suggest at least [ro_(nyankone)] for the artist tag.

I second kagaku's idea, Ro_(nyankone) seems like the best tag for the artist (as there are other artists using ro)
