Topic: *_vore blacklist bug?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I'm not sure if this is a bug or what, but I was browsing some of my fave artists and noticed a particular post (https://e621.net/posts/4954101) that I was surprised wasn't filtered out by the blacklist. Admittedly this post was pretty tame as far as the levels of vore went, but I was still surprised to even see it. I have both vore & *_vore in my blacklist and for the most part it seems to filter out, except this post didn't get hidden and my blacklist wasn't disabled while I was browsing? Even though it's tagged imminent_vore which I would think would get hit by either of those 2 and yet it's there. Like I said, that post in particular I'm not too worried about, but then I went to https://e621.net/posts?tags=imminent_vore and was actually surprised (and a little disturbed) how many made it through.

I checked https://e621.net/tag_aliases.json?search[name_matches]=*_vore&search[status]=active and it showed up in there for several things, and then checked a bunch of the other vores, but I guess because I was specifically excluding the vore tag from the search nothing showed up, so I guess this one is an exception? I'm pretty sure I can just add imminent_vore to my blacklist and be fine, but like I said I have *_vore already so I assumed it wouldn't be. I also checked https://e621.net/posts?tags=*_vore+-vore and got visible results for that as well....and yeah most of that isn't stuff I'd care to see.

So I guess, do wildcards not work in blacklists after all and I only got lucky filtering out so many because I have vore in my blacklist, or is it borked and I'm the lucky one who noticed it? I tried doing some searching in the forum to see if something like this came up and I found https://e621.net/forum_topics/31327 saying they don't, but then I found https://e621.net/forum_topics/42852 saying they do, so I'm confused :/

Thanks!

A quick test shows that, for me, blacklisting *_vore does blacklist all posts with imminent_vore as well.
That said, I certainly wouldn't rely on wildcards in a blacklist. Wildcards in general are rather unreliable.
Edit: seems it's a re621 feature, doesn't work with re621 disabled.

Updated

my blacklist is currently failing entirely for some reason...no idea what's happening

Blacklist on regular e6 doesn't support wildcards. The reason your blacklist has been working week relatively far is because the posts that would've slipped through would've been caught by vote or other entries on your blacklist

Donovan was using re621, as I asked below their forum post

Based on how you worded that, I presume you disabled your blacklist

is still there, just 90% of it won't apply for some reason

Ah...well....that's frustrating.

One would think there'd be some kind of official documentation for that given it works in the search like that just fine :/

You have the longest blacklist I've ever seen. 640 lines total.
I don't see anything immediately wrong with it, so you'll have to elaborate on what you mean by "failing".

This is correct.

There is also a blacklist rewrite in the works right now, but it does not include wildcards.
It's unlikely that those will ever be supported, purely for performance reasons.

i keep adding certain artists or characters because people adding the wrong tags and bypassing the usual blacklist...
that aside, the reason why the blacklist isn't working as it was seems to be that a lot of the tags are no longer on the black list? i have no idea how that happened or why...as i didn't remove them
is there a limit to the list? or do i need to change my password >_>

Well, I can't really help you with the disappearing entries. We don't keep a history of your blacklist.
You shouldn't be anywhere near the limit, though. You are at around 6.8 thousand characters – the hard limit is 150 thousand.

That's only a soft limit, you can temporarily go over it, but the loading takes ages
