create alias cybernatic_leg (0) -> cybernetic_leg (1610)
create alias cybernatic_legs (0) -> cybernetic_leg (1610)

Reason: Some basic synonyms for cybernetic body parts. And a mistake I kept making.

I now realize we probably need to talk about mechanical limbs in general. So I removed most of what was already there. I added some no space and plural reverents because why not?

I really don't know what to do with robot_arm and robotic_ram. The wikis for both don't make the difference clear, and the tag search doesn't help either. I can see two ways too make a distinction:

1. Robot_arm could refer to the classic cartoony depictions of mechanical arms, such as segmented tubes.

2. Robot_arm could refer to mechanical arms attached to non-humanoid, anthro, feral, ect machines.

The problem is that robot_* and robotic_* are to phonetically similar to each other. So I would rather alias them, and make new tags for these cases.

Gooseneck_arm can be used for case 1, but gooseneck_* is no a very well known term.

And for case 2 something like arm_attachment could work.

Machine_limb or mechanical_limb could be the umbrella tag for robotic_limbs and cybernetic_limbs. But it might make more sense to make them disambiguation tags. I generally prefer aliasing over invalidating, but the overlap between robotic_limbs and cybernetic_limbs in terms of appeal might not be there.

Please post burs in this thread by putting the thread number 421334 to make the conversation more convenient. Thank you.

"mechanical" dosn't necessarily mean "cybernetic", does it? would a more low-tech mechanical prosthetic like a steam-punky one or something like the deal that Ian Davis on YouTube has be cybernetic?

I was actually in in middle of editing the bur while you were cementing. Good point.

EDIT: I just now checked out the link. I would definitely call Ian's fingers a prostatic, but not cybernetic, sense that would require electronics. It can still be considered mechanical_* though.

Reason: Any distraction that can be made between these tags can be better don with tags that are not phonetically similar. So we should group these together.

I was very hesitant to touch robotic_arm back in the day as it was largely tagged on FNAF animatronics instead of for standalone robotic arms, robot_arm appears to have been an even newer addition and I'm not sure how the separation is intended!
OozeEnthusiast appears to have started the wiki in '22 to be for characters who have a prosthetic mechanical limb, then dupestein came along this April and rewrote it to be about arms of full-robot characters? I find checking wiki histories very helpful, as it's quite the Wild West of editors doing as they please outside of a small group of Core Tags admin keep locked.

Either way the continuing problem is that tagging is inconsistent (as individuals have a widely varying internal definition of what cybernetic/robotic/what-have-you means) and I don't see a clear way of getting everyone's tagging straight (as my philosophical view on tagging structure is that you kinda need to corral rule-non-following casual taggers into what they try to tag coming out the other end as accidentally consistent.) Maybe an umbrella tag is the only real way to get everything on track.

Functionally, it's likely going to be difficult to determine unless the viewer can see the specific mechanisms or lack thereof involved. There might be an argument for keeping them separated, but first and foremost is getting them searchable. I don't think my old BUR went into that possible separation, I was mostly concerned with getting synonyms bundled into a neat searchable package, and uhh, the robotic_arm situation wasn't one I wanted to mess with too much with the full-robots involved.

I think I largely share your philosophy. I am new to tagging, but I believe the tags should first and foremost be intuitive. Meaning that people should be able to use the tags properly without reading the wiki. Which means seeing how people already use the tag, like what you seem to do. I also come up with my top three criteria for deciding which tag should be the main tag a couple hours ago.

In order: needs to describe the content; needs to be in common use; needs to be phonetically distinct.

But also I am new, so I am NOT going to rock the boat. Thank you very much.
