The news box on the home page, https://e621.net, has always shown the most recent news regardless of how old it is as far as I'm aware and has no context of the content of the news it is.
If for whatever reason you find yourself on the home page often and dislike the news box, this CSS will get rid of it. However, there's very little reason to actually go to the home page, I don't think.
