Reason: An artist alias.
In 2005, the artist named Lewd renamed themselves as Monsterbait, which they still use. Separated from the lewd_(disambiguation) thread for clarity:

BUT i notice there three posts still tagged with lewd_(artist) ...
... lewd_(artist) posts unclear if name change occurred, but 2 of the posts included furnation.com/lewd URL on them,
so i checked Wayback Machine and (for example) http://web.archive.org/web/20100315000424/http://furnation.com/lewd/
says "click to redirect to the gallery" with link to www.monsterbait.net . http://web.archive.org/web/20101126195939/http://monsterbait.net/links.html has a bunch of banners with "Lewd" on them
I didn't get farther than that because Wayback Machine is mostly unavailable for approx hour now. (currently unclear to me if artist switched to name MonsterBait or continued with name of Lewd)
To continue from Lister's conversation:
The artist still uses their Monsterbait FA and DA, and it's certainly less generic than Lewd. Since there is a connection, I just retagged the three lewd_(artist) posts to monsterbait. There also is an artist legitimately named Lewd Artist as well, so this avoids confusion there. I can see someone finding and posting some of Monsterbait's old Lewd art (such as what's on their old VCL) and reviving this tag.
