Topic: ratings: gore and violence vs nudity and sex

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Ok first of I understand Explicit ratings are for Sex and nudity below the belt, but why not gore or breasts?
Breasts tend to be seen as explicit on most Tv stations around the world barring special places like Japan.
However gore.. and I mean blood and guts type gore, suicide, murder, ect why isn't that considered explicit?

When I think of the word explicit I think nudity, Sex, and extreme vilance (know my spelling Sucks).

If there's guts spilling out with blood everywhere, I'd consider it explicit. Not sure about breasts but I'd say they're questionable

It should be rated explicit. I know that much of it is currently rated as questionable, but someone else will have to fix those. I've got gore blacklisted.

Explicit for visible genitalia, obvious sexual intercourse/action and high amounts of violence/gore.

I don't even need to quote myself on this one!

But what genjar quoted above, visible genitalia are explicit, so are death and high gore/blood amounts, questionable are bare breasts and nipples and safe is everything else.

And to the "Breasts tend to be seen as explicit on most Tv stations around the world barring special places like Japan." nearly all of europe doesn't give a damn about nudity, we have hundreds of years of full on nude art on display, in museums visited by children and adults alike, our God of War games had violence and ragdoll effects on humanoids censored but not the nipple scenes and the list goes on.

The thing here is that many places rather us a 4 or more layered system (general, artistic nudity, pornography, violence or PEGI 6, 12, 16, 18) or something like that, which basically simply throws in another layer to differentiate between artistic nudity and pornography.
But sadly, we only use three so the gore, porn full nudity are shoveled into explicit, questionable houses light nudity/suggestive works and moderate violence and safe houses the boring things, no nudity and no violence.

I swear we've had this topic before.

We have, just for some reason it makes real sense to have gore as an e rating, least to me.
from my old :current: understanding. Explicits are Sex, and any genitalia seen below the belt.
I get breasts are questionable because they arnt genitalia, their meant for feeding offspring, not Sex.

Unless we need a new rating for violence :P
I'm probably over thinking it.

I do find the whole thing that North America loves violence and hates nudity in their media and Europe is the opposite really interesting :P

Everyone seems to keep forgetting about heavy-drug use (cocaine/heroin/meth/etc) usually getting the questionable rating. Which if that's not a thing that's already in place, it should be.
