Topic: why can't i put the picture in my head onto paper

Posted under Art Talk

So my friend wants me to draw a picture of flutterbat for his birthday on Friday, and holy shit I need to draw more I just can't get anything onto paper looking right.
I hate to ask this but if anyone would do a picture for him, I can't pay in internet money but I want him to get something nice for his birthday...

I recommend you go look for a guy known as SilverKunai, he does requests for free. And fast.

Because if everyone could draw what's on their minds, everybody would be an artist. IMHO it's the hardest of drawing anything.

Everyone is an artist, its just the lagtime between the head server and the body's hardware is really bad.
It's really just a matter of refining the skills into something people enjoy seeing. You've got the talent, and that's why art is different then say logic/facts/reasoning, you have the skills its more about putting the patterns in a different order, or figuring out shapes differently, or manufacturing colors, etc, etc. Sure it'll help for someone to say "maybe if the face didn't look like a foot" and then show you how to refrain from drawing footfaces, but that only gets you so far...

Most of being a good artist is practice. Spending hours upon hours training your body to draw according to how you want it to. Which sucks. :P

WARNING: training for long periods of time may result in the gruesom deaths of those around you.

This is truer than anyone can ever attempt. I never picked up a pen/pencil to draw until roughly 4.5 months ago... Just draw about 2 hours a day when I can. Immensely better than I ever would have thought when first starting, much less in only 4.5 months.

So...did he get it in time?

sorry I haven't been on but my phone was turned off and its rare I get to go somewhere with internet but no he didn't get to it, but to be fair he's now in Thailand so I can't imagine drawing a free picture to be high on his priority list.
