Topic: shota and straight shota

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

ok i understand that "shota" does not necessarily imply that its gay shota but since there is already a straight shota tag shouldn't shota just have the other? or at least could we add a gay shota tag?

The forums don't need to be 'kept alive'.

Shota can have solo. Gay shota images can also be tagged with gay, so we don't need a gay_shota tag. Straight_shota is just what it says on the tin: Hetero shota.

but should it not just be shota, then either add gay or straight as another tag when searching?

I commend your efforts.

My understanding is that shota = young male. It's short for shotacon, which is the male version of lolicon; i.e., sexy little boys. Thus, shota by itself implies gay (though not in the tag implication way).

straight_shota, then, is the exception: little boys in sexy but non-homosexual situations.

Do they both need to exist? In all honesty, probably not.

Edit: Wow, mega-ninja'd.

Dire Vargr went all technical and shit lol. i thank you. though this leads me to my second question. Who is allowed to edit the wiki? because i come across quite a few wiki posts that say no page is available at this time though i know the proper definition. ( i can even make it sound all fancy) so would i be allowed to add to the wiki?

As far as I can tell, any registered user can edit the wiki entries. I just went to the straight_shota one and clicked on "edit," and it changed to an editable format.

I think that straight_shota probably implies straight, and searching gay with shota will turn up gay shota pics. No problem here.

Every registered user can edit the wiki.

As far as tags go, I personally think straight_shota needs to be aliased to shota. If there's straight stuff going on, tag it thusly. If there's gay stuff going on, tag it thusly.

Lol I've been here since 2008 and I still dont know what a shota is. It must be something faggy.

Human equivalent of cub. Loli for girls, shota for boys, and I wonder if cub covers both genders?

Cub, for furries, is young anthros of either gender. If you're a human and you say you're a cub, that generally means you're a young gay dude who's into bears i.e. older, bigger, and very hairy gay men.

Shota on its own has gay connotations, as Dire Vargr stated. Thus the need for straight shota as a specific different tag.

Updated by anonymous

Shota(con)

It refers to a genre of manga and anime wherein pre-pubescent or pubescent male characters are depicted in a suggestive or erotic manner. It can also apply to postpubescent (adolescent or adult) characters with youthful neotenic features that would make them appear to be younger than they are.

The usage of the term in both Western and Japanese fan cultures includes works ranging from explicitly pornographic to mildly suggestive, romantic or entirely nonsexual.

Just to say it's doesn't automatically means gay

shota =/= yaoi, and the fact shota has gay connotations is something not many people here care about. If they want shotas having sex with other guys, they search gay shota. They want shotas having sex with girls, they search straight shota. Having two sets of tags to describe the same thing is convoluted.

I thought a shota was an underage boy.

Updated by anonymous

I don't mean the word itself does. Just that shota in use within a) the furry community, and b) the hentai community is basically 90% gay (321% of all statistics made up, yeah yeah, but a LOT of it is). Shota on its own, or rather shotacon, which itself is a shortened form of Shōtarō complex, indicates an attraction to young boys, and can be used in reference ala "he's a shota" to indicate someone with the qualities of a young boy that make him especially targetable. However as has been said by the staff time anda gain, if a word means something different within the community than what it actually means, too bad. So I'm following that concept here.

True. But there has also been a slow shift to making some tags mean what they mean, rather than what they're used for. If it's useful, anyway. I think that for consistency, we should axe straight_shota and have just shota, then use the already-available straight and gay tags to indicate whether it's...well, straight or gay.

Updated by anonymous

Well, this has been an interesting discussion. Adding straight_shota -> shota alias.

What you will tag if a picture contain 2shota which make yaoi (so, this is yaoi), and man+woman (straight) at the same time? So, we have tags:
shota
yaoi
straight
But NOT straight_shota

Or we have pictures where man have sex with woman, but shota(s) stay away and looking...

shota, straight - is descriptions of general objects and a general situation at a picture. But straight_shota is the tag, which describe the specific theme (or the fetish).

So, straight_shota should not be aliased into simply "straight", and must not be aliased into "shota"

I think that would have

shota
gay, and
straight

It doesn't matter what the individual characters are doing in the image, or with who. The tags apply to the picture as a whole; thus, one pic can have both gay and straight tags.

Or we have pictures where man have sex with woman, but shota(s) stay away and looking...

shota and straight. Not straight_shota, true, but them's the breaks.

This is true.

River, did you apply Straight to all the straight_shota images before aliasing them?

straight_shota already implied straight and shota. I just had to remove the implications before aliasing it.

who knew little old me could make a change. but anyways i do agree that any pic depicting a young male should be labeled shota, then either adding gay or straight tags depending on the actions in the pic.

Ok but, it would make more sense to split up tags like these if users could search more than 4. Searching straight shota is going from a quarter to half used.

Trfg does make a reasonable point with that. Perhaps a one-tag increase?

Those would be the 7 tag cap and the ability to fully customize the color of every text and background.

When I search for 'shota', I get quite a lot of cub art. Is cub and shota considered the same thing here, or are they being improperly tagged?

shota = prepubescent/young male. It's properly tagged.
