Topic: Let's hunt us some 500 errors

Posted under General

Okay, realistically, you should never. NEVER see a 500 error. you should always get a meaningful message why something borked. or fix it. Do me and the rest of the site a favor. right down every 500 error you get. where you got it, what your submission to the site was, and steps to duplicate.

Updated

Something like this?

Where it was found: Here

Action taken to receive error:
Clicked the search button
(Searched for grey_fur
Searched for gray_gur)

Steps to duplicate: Create an alias request, and search for either tag (the one being aliased, or the one it should be aliased to) here

Searching for any aliases that don't currently exist results in a 500 error page. Searching for implications that don't exist works as expected.

Where it was found: http://e621.net/post/create

Action taken to receive error: attempting to upload an image

Steps to duplicate: attempt to upload an image

Like that?

This is a temporary issue that resulted from e621's image drive filling up. It will be resolved as soon as possible.

Pretty much if you search for a tag in the alias section and it doesn't have an alias, it will go 500 error.

Uploading goes 500 (but I'm assuming that's temporary)

Trying to view a forum/comment that has been deleted will give a 404 message (I know that's different but I just thought I'd throw it out there)

Trying to search blips goes 500.

Edit:Dang Char you beat me to it by a minute

Updated by anonymous

There's also a blip search that ends with a 500 error. I checked my account page, clicked on the number of blips (I had 19 at the time) and it took me to a 500 error page. Not sure if it's just me or anything.

for some reason when I upload when it is done 500 errors pop out and I have no idea what to do.... and it seems no one can upload...

Found another one trying to reset my password if I'm logged out. Try logging out and resetting your password (I'm not sure if having your email address correct/incorrect causes it), it goes 500 error.

When I tried to upload Nihim's Fetish Fantasy, I get a 500 error for some reason.

Found them
here

here

and here

They were found simply by opening those images in new tabs from the front page. Refreshing solved the issue.

Duplicate it by viewing them in new tabs from the front page? I dunno. It might not bring them back up, as refreshing fixed it...

Fixed the alias search and post_tag_history user search errors in the next update.

I'm getting a 500 error when I try to create an implication and the forum for it.

For now, make the forum by hand :)

I keep getting a 500 error when I try to upload images, but other people seem to be uploading just fine.

EDIT: Okay the error seems to only be happening when I try to upload this image.

I'm getting 500 error from time to time during various things. Tagging, looking at user profile, etc. Few times it made my changes on tags to go wrong. That is, there was a log of my change in history of tags, but it had plus/minus signs colored black, even though no one changed tag after me, and changes didn't show in tags. After changing it again it worked.

I think I changed those tags, after seeing it, and it haven't happened again yet (That is, this error in tagging, I've got 500 error few times since then.), so I don't know how to replicate, or even show post where those tags changes were wrong.

Also it looks like those 500 errors are temporary and random. They remain for few seconds, and then they disappear.

The same happens with aliases too

Oh, didn't know that Char, thanks

I just got an error 500 from trying to load the front page, http://e621.net/ at 12:26am PST. Was not reproduceable; Reloading the page did not produce another error 500.

Yes, I'm currently stress testing the site by posting a bunch of stupidly high res images in a row.

I get 500 errors randomly, but mainly in the morning between 5h00 a.m.- 10h00 a.m (I'm in the UTC +4 time zone). And when it happen, the whole site is on a 500 error.

It's not a 500 error per se, but attempting to log in to my account on my Android phone (Dolphin browser) returns the error message 'That username does not exist'.

Updated by anonymous

Whever I press "F5" (doesn't matter what page), it gives me the 500 error page. Now if I just manually click 'refresh' it doesn't do that, just on the hot key.

We know you sometimes get random, non-reproducible 500 errors, it's something with the server itself, not the code, you guys can stop reporting them now.

It's ippiki's fault. He confessed it!

Searching invalid_tag aliases by date, gives me 500 error.

How to reproduce:
Enter this link or search aliases of invalid_tag with date order.

I'm getting 500 errors on my upload attempts as well.

Got that too when doing my first upload. Kept going back trying to upload it thinking it didn't work. eventually scrolled up to see it say the image was already there, that I already uploaded it. felt like a fool, ya know?

Getting 500 errors all over the site like crazy, so is my mate... every page, every 3 clicks, ect...

Updated by anonymous

still getting 500 errors all over the place, even the front page, the posts, the forums, user profiles, tags, comments...everything.

Updated by anonymous

Yes we know there are quite a few more error 500 pages appearing than normal; we assure you that it is being worked on and regular site functionality should resume shortly

Please no more reports on this exact problem of random and unreproducible 500 errors

Still have a 500 Error logging on to my original account (FingerMassage). Was told it was due to the size of my blacklist. Shortened it. Did not work. Never heard from anybody since early August.

I sincerely apologize for that. It looks like your account may have been overlooked in the list when we were fixing these. I'll make sure it gets done asap.

turns out it isn't a problem with our code at all, but a bug in passenger. Will be fixed as soon as the passenger code compiles correctly
