In MLP friendship is magic style, hooves are often not drawn in, but many MLP images gets hooves tagged in regardless Hooves are not just legs or feet. Hooves are the toes (or toenails rather). Just wanted to make sure my assumption is correct here, or if anyone else has ny other opinions on this.

Hooves is the tag currently used in place of unguligrades i.e. 'hooved' animals

Which is used in a similar vein to plantigrade & digitigrade

So even if a post tagged with hooves contains no hooves (be it artistic license or otherwise), but animals that classify as unguligrades instead, the hooves tag shows up because of the alias

As to why this happened, you'd probably have to do some forum digging for a full answer

Even so there should be a differentiation for the specific type of toe, like claws for instance. Unless there is a way to properly differentiate images with hoof-toes and those without, hooves shouldn't be used as a catchall. We have a proper term for this leg type, I don't see why this legtype should be aliased to a tag which is better used for a different purpose.

I actually would like that alias/implication removed/not made

My little pony characters are mostly equine, but usually do not have hooves visible, so being able to only place it on posts with hooves showing would be better

The whole story about hooves is actually a matter of association, (I'm only using an example so no offense) when Americans hear terrorism the think Iraq and bin laden, but in reality its anyone with an intent to do harm to the government or its people, hooves are a general association with horses as are the familiar clop clop clop sounds that go with horses

The association should be reversed even so: hooves should imply unguligrade, not the other way round, and certainly not as an alias.

Humans response and categorization is flawed in its very nature, when we find a way to separate the two humans again will find a new way to wrong what's ment to be right, humans are doomed to destroy order and eventually will destroy itself, besides, most don't know the difference and simply don't care.

Okay then, anyway, we try having the most common terms in our tags, rather than the most technically correct. Hooves is just much more commonly known a term than unguligrade, and just as we use pussy rather than vagina, we will use hooves instead because it's just a more common term, albeit not entirely correct

U are right on that one, only a select few of us has the ability to master the ways of the technical form of this planet, the average joe just see the world as u stated

An alternative: visible_hooves for when the hooves are visible, and/or hoofed for unguligrades.

Thatl would work but now we forget about the people who don't give a damn about this stuff, they will only start complainin about it again and I'm sure the e621 team won't like another discussion like the mlp descussions

As it regards MLP; only tag the hooves if they are visible, regardless of the fact that they technically have hooves. We can't see the hooves and therefore won't tag them

That would be best, trick is how do we get it into the heads of posters and taggers, if we don't get it into their heads this discussion is useless. Ps u look terrible, restless nights?

That is what neutral records and ultimately bans are for. If you find someone, retag the picture and leave a small comment under it stating why you retagged it, if they change it back or ignore that desperately, report them.

U really think posters will go through every single tag every day on all the stuff they posted, not even the army is that thorough, when I clean my gun I don't even touch the insides until next weak, love your ikon though, I wish everyone had that attitude

They will eventually learn and change their habits, if they fight about it then direct them to this forum and if they still fight then report them

I think I can safely say then that our users are more thorough than the army, as some just love our site so much they will hunt down these tags and fix them, and I do sometimes too if I have time. See: tagcount:..7

Nice; I have this obsessive habit of removing everything, cleaning then reassembling it about five times in a row before I am satisfied with it. Been trying to modify the front barrel, it goes slowly but I'm getting there

To man one of these guns u need at least 8 people. When I said I'm the only one to operate it I meant I'm the only one to aim the gun and fire it, other persons are radio operators, spotters and re loaders, when someone gives me the coordinates I elevate the gun and adjust the horizontal degrees, then I wait for the order to fire and bang, a nother piece of unarmed soil bites the dust

U're right, this did get a little out of hand, I have been thinking quite a lot about this and got a plan, since there will always be the dipstick who changes back the tags after it was fixed, I suggest the e621 team create a team of taggers who can fix tags and it can't be rewriten by others
