Topic: Edit and name it

Is it wrong if you edit a pic and you right your name on the bottom of the Image?

Updated by mellis

why would you do that in the first place?

if you're trying to take credit for the work, the answer is an unequivocal "yes."

if by edit you mean something minor then yea. if you did something major, then yea. you can ADD your name if you colored it, but don't take off the original person

You're going to get varying responses if you do it. Some artists enjoy seeing their greyscale, black-and-white, or otherwise limited palette works colored. Some don't. Lots of censored pics get de-censored, but I have not yet seen what an artist's reaction to that is. Few artists that I've seen appreciate finding their works modified to remove elements that used to be there, or their characters reposed.

For that matter, you're going to get mixed responses from the fans, too, especially if you're not making a high-quality edit.

You haven't told us what kind of edit you're referring to, so I'm going to assume the worst case - you're photoshopping a picture to re-pose the character and possibly remove elements you didn't care for. Safest bet is to leave the original signature intact and unmolested, and if you're going to add your name then make sure you indicate that you only did an edit.

Best case scenario is it starts drama, particularly because you're likely shitting all over the original artist's image with your 'clever' edits. Worst case scenario is the original artist sues you for claiming credit/claiming ownership on their work. Why would you think this would ever be a good idea?
