Usually indeed. Penis doesn't imply male, I see no reason disembodied_penis should, either. Otherwise every pic with a dick will have male, and that's just not accurate.

Strictly speaking, Disembodied penis doesn't come with disembodied vag or disembodied tits, usually its only a penis and ONLY a penis. Therefor, its most likely on a male. The reason "Penis" isn't implied like this, is its attached to other things, such as herms.

True. But the "most likely" still makes me think it shouldn't be aliased. Especially if there isn't actually anything else in the image. There are no males in an image if all there is is a penis. Just penises. Penises are, as you said, sometimes attached to things other than males. But a disembodied penis isn't attached to anything at all, not even a male. It's just a penis. My vote remains against this implication.

Disembodied cocks are supposed to have a male tag. Did you not get the memo? That's how we've been doing it for as long as I can remember. It's why we don't tag them as solo pics.

-shrugs- Then imply it. I disagree with the implication, because if I'm to tag what I see, I don't think I should tag male on an image where there is no male. I knew that they weren't solo, and I don't have a problem with that.

I vote against the implication.

Just because something's been done for a long time doesn't mean that it's right. As stated before, a penis isn't always attached to a male.

Well i just thought of the old "Tag what you see"
and what i see is a penis with no indication of being from a herm or dickgirl so i will presume it's from a male
Updated by anonymous
But all I see is a penis, with no indication that it's from anything. It's just a penis. Disembodied. i.e. no body.

so when a female character gets vaginal penetrated by a disembodied penis, it isn't straight sex because it's only a penis in the vagina?

no. i mean that if i type "male" on search and get this: http://www.e621.net/post/show/150025 FEMALE AND TWO FLOATING DICKS. NOT ANY ACTUAL MALES WHAT I WANT TO SEE. If, I search for "male" I am not searching for female with floating dick. i am searching for ACTUAL MALE. And i didnt say that i dont want to see disembodied_penis i said
disembodied_penis =/= male

What if you're alright with men with disembodied penises floating about them?
Updated by anonymous
I don't think disembodied_penis should automatically imply male. I mean, one thing I've noticed about e621 is its commitment to making accurate tags. Since penises don't HAVE to belong on males, I think implying that they do would be inaccurate, and counter-productive to the site.

disembodied_penis -female

It seems to me that a disembodied penis takes the some of the same roles as a tentacle. It provides all the required sex without the inconvenience of having to a) draw more characters; b)have an actual male in the picture; c) have a character blocking our view of bits of the one being sexed.
As you yourself said here , ippiki, tentacles aren't really beings, they're just sex toys. That's more or less what the penises are (as I also argued there). Dildos that move on their own.
Updated by anonymous
Sure, but I don't think tentacles should be treated the same as dicks, unless they're obviously attached to an actual creature, in which case it deserves to be treated as a separate character. Floating dicks (not dildos), to me, satisfy the straight sex requirements, and no solo pic should be tagged as straight. And since it isn't solo, the other party should be validated with a gender tag.
Updated by anonymous
We could, of course, go about the lazy-man's way of doing it and add "Ambiguous_gender"... instead of male...
But it just doesn't seem appropriate.
I really don't think male should be implied by Disembodied_Penis. It's perfectly fine as-is. When you want to see a chick with disembodied_penis, you can search "disembodied_penis female", and you can also do the same with "(dp) -female" and "(dp) herm", etc.
There's no reason whatsoever to even be fretting over this. With or without the male tag being implied, searches can still be carried out swiftly and accurately for anybody even slightly familiar with the search function.
The only REAL questions are A) Whether or not they should be tagged with "solo", which, I really don't think that they should, and B) Whether or not they should be tagged as Straight/Gay/etc.
As for the Straight thing, I'm pretty sure that if it was a male with disembodied penises in the image, it would be tagged as gay nine times out of ten. So, if that's the case, then images with a female surrounded by disembodied penises should be tagged straight.

A: No we don't tag them as solo, we already treat a disembodied_penis like another character
B: yes they should, because i don't think straight people would like to stumble over this. Also when people add tags like gay and straight, then they have already confirmed a disembodied_penis as a gender, because when you add gay and straight tag a implication adds a "male" tag

So then are we all agreed or what? No confirmation's been given.
