Aw damnit. Anyway, it's a 95. I needed a reliable daily driver, and I would've loved a '69 but gl finding a good one for under $5K.. The interior of older caddies and Lincoln's had space for days... Why do you think cops loved the Crown Vic since inception? Room for everything.

There's a vintage lot with a black '65 hardtop just out of town here. Dunno if it's still there but it was gorgeous.

And my mom had a Cougar of that year. It had an electronic dashboard, it was pretty nice.

Something that makes me scream internally- when someone dares drive an Aztec in public, especially where I could see them.

Yeeeessss. I can't believe the same badge that went on a Trans Am went on that.

Well it was in breaking bad, so that might have something to do with it.

Then there are the people who said the '04 GTO wasn't a real goat and failed. It sold every model planned, and the 6.0 under the hood meant if you took the badging off, it'd be a hell of a sleeper.

Oh sweet God-Emperor it's a J-body. I have a friend with one of those (but a Sunfire), so now that I know that backstory I can totally understand. He hates it as much as I do, but it absolutley will not die.

You might have had a more comfortable childhood in my car. Boy how times have changed.

I envy you guys... I grew up with one of these (well, it looks very similar to the one at least; Haven't had contact with the guy who drove it for 12+ years now, so please don't blame me for not knowing the exact model) http://mystationwagon.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/1980s-GMC-wagon1.jpg

You. Me. Nürburgring Nordshleife. Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Then you'll see. Plus, I'd rather drive in / be seen in / see a Equus than a Civic.

Updated by anonymous

This thread is now about cars?

I look back at our Hyundai Sonata with disdain. Absolutely mediocre. Not bad, certainly not good, but definitely below average. It was fine for A to B, but otherwise it had no high points. Newer Sonatas should easily be better. Contrast that with a fleet of Lincoln Town Car sedans and stretches (2nd and 3rd gen as per wikipedia) and a classy Cadillac hearse that I also "grew up in."

Also, Sunfire hate? My friends' moms and my aunt drove them lol. One of the herd! I'll just assume it was Pontiac's Sonata :).

Pontiac's only gems in its last days were the Firebird, Solstice, GTO, and G6/G8(?)... Otherwise unremarkable and rather sad for the red triangle. Hyundai, meanwhile doesn't have a single mule anymore. Kia needs a touch more work but is otherwise pretty good.

When did this become a thread about cars?

Me, personally? I've always been partial to V8 Mustangs. I don't really go crazy in mine or drive it like a lunatic anymore but I still have so much fun rowing my own gears and cruising out on empty Arizona Desert highways up north. Something about sitting behind the exhaust tone of a V8, having all that power on tap to fool around with occasionally while just driving through Sedona or Prescott just really relaxes / appeals to me.

I must note that a "$100, 000 metal box" has better handling, turning, transmission, acceleration, speed (of course), crash test ratings, etc. BUT they are a real pain in the wallet if you get in to a crash. For me, I drive a Mazda RX-8, nowhere close as expensive as an exotic but way better performance than a regular compact.

True, but you don't need that for residential and city driving. So long as you have functional brakes and a safe frame, you're good. Better speed, acceleration, transmission, etc. are only nice if you have stretches of road where you can actually use them.

Here's something that doesn't really make me scream internally but I do debate blowing up the building.

People who don't vaccinate their kids.

Like hell I get it if it's your religion, some religions do have that and that is perfectly understandable but -Jesus- fucking Christ. That fucking baby is brand new to this entire world it hasn't exactly seen more then a couple thousand germs yet and it's been kept in controlled areas until leaving the hospital and you stupid shits think it's okay to just let em roam free in the entire bacteria infested world without any protection at all?

It's the same with people who don't take the fucking flu shot because they think the "evil" companies behind them are bullshitting them or that somehow the government is testing them secretly.

Learn to fucking trust them! When was the last time you heard of an entire town dieing because the government was doing tests with flu shots?

Paranoid fuckheads who scream and yell about how these big companies are ruining peoples lives are flat out stupid. They are BIG COMPANIES because what they are doing is a BIG MARKET. There are millions of people in a country like Canada or the United States. Out of the like 14% of you who are retarded enough not to get their kid vaccinated the other 86% are paying for these things and for what other reason then THEY WORK? which supplies them with oh let's see about $20 for each flu shot for example, I'm not on a good internet connection so let's use the population count of 100,000,000 people. 14% of that is 14,000,000.

Meaning that the other 86,000,000 are buying the flu shot for this example and at $20 a person that's $1,720,000,000.

They don't get rich because they are thieving scumbags, they get rich because there are so many of us. If it was a small town of 100 people 14 of which not buying then it would only be $1,720.

That was my rant for the night. I'm going to bed -_-

Erm, sorry to burst your bubble, but many a time flu shots have resulted in people simply being sick because of it, not just building up immunization via introduction of a weakened virus. Further, mercury is a common ingredient in vaccines; Look up the ingredient thiomersal. I'm far more concerned about the risk of mercury poisoning than I am about Little Jimmy getting an honest-to-goodness sickness and needing to be treated for it. You're not even guarenteed to prevent getting ill... but when taking a nasal spray vaccine, you can certainly help ensure everyone else you interact has a chance to get sick, what with it shedding viruses everywhere you go for the next week. What with all the little shits giving away sicknesses like candy because the parents get the flu shot then never bother to pay any attention to whether their child is properly dressed up or whatnot to prevent the flu and other illnesses like the common cold...

So, yeah. They can keep their vaccines, thank you.

The point of vaccines is to give the person's immune system a chance at dealing with a drastically weakened version of a specific virus to help said immune system react faster to a real infection.
If the immune system can't handle a practically dead virus how is it supposed to deal with a real one?

The end result can then vary from total immunisation without visible outbreak to normal outbreaks that have a much smaller chance of killing you, either by buying time until it gets lethal or by preventing some of the worse symptoms.

You basically take a shot at being ill for a specific time you decide instead of being ill at a random point later in time.

Is thiomersal still used in vaccines for humans? Germany stopped using it back in 2004.

Also, this is the first time I heard about spray vaccines, those sound horribly inefficient, they were given with needles for a reason and not placed in a liveable environment where they can potentially reproduce with no chance of the white bloodcells to reach them.

It's not like the flu shot does not work at all. My whole family takes them every year and as a result I can't remember the last time one of us got sick. It's been a long time.

But that was not my point, I don't care if you take the flu shot it's not necessary. My point was not getting the many vaccinations they give to you as a baby.

Things like
-tetanus

Which you can get from a lot of places, and can kill you.

I don't care if you skip the flu shot, or don't use special chemicals for ear aches and instead use tea tree oil. (Which works surprisingly well on a lot of things)

But when you have a baby and they ask if you want to give them the vacc, do it.

This comment is ironically in the perfect thread.

The reason mercury is present in shots is because they contain Thimerosal. It's an antiseptic that's used to preserve the vaccines, thus making sure they actually work as they're intended. People who had the same thought that mercury is too dangerous got many vaccinations to replace Thimerosal with high-level aluminum variations, which are MUCH more toxic than small amounts of mercury.

The World Health Organization, The Food and Drug administration, The National Institute of Health, and The Center for Disease Control have ALL reported the levels of mercury in vaccinations to be non-harmful to children and adults alike.

Also, keep in mind that each vaccine contains 0.25 micrograms of Thimerosal. Every GRAM of tuna contains 0.64 micrograms of mercury. That means a tuna sandwich is more "dangerous" for "Little Jimmy" than a year's worth of shots.

Vaccination hysteria makes me indescribably annoyed.

For more deadly viruses, or ones that you have never been exposed to genetically at all (as in, your ancestors have never encountered it, so you have no ability to react to it encoded in your DNA as you would with illnesses local to your ancestry; Montezuma's Revenge is one example of a case where that occurs even today; small pox would be an older one, when it was introduced to Native Americans) most certainly vaccines can be of use! There are very deadly things that can cut you down in just a few days without even knowing what you're sick with. The common influenza virus though? Does not fit into that catagory- especially not with the massive hype and scaremongering that is used to say it's "more deadly than ever before" and whatnot. Ignoring the symptoms is what's deadly, not getting sick.

Is thiomersal still used in vaccines for humans? Germany stopped using it back in 2004.

Unfortunately, yes.

Also, this is the first time I heard about spray vaccines, those sound horribly inefficient, they were given with needles for a reason and not placed in a liveable environment where they can potentially reproduce with no chance of the white bloodcells to reach them.

I've never used them myself, but I know of at least one that exists, which is enough for me to look into it, and find out that those who use it shed the virus so employed to those around them about 80% of the time, so nope, haha.

Cutedementia said:

Not saying the flue shot doesn't work- after all, when you look at the conditions that you'll be faced with for the oncoming year and consider resurgences of particular strains and other such patterns, you can guess what the three most likely flu strains are and vaccinate against them. If you get lucky, those vaccinations are the strains you'll encounter and easily fight them off... But you could just as easily never encounter a strain of the flu, and so never have needed that shot- or it could give you a completely different strain from what you'll end up encountering, that provides no protection but makes you mildly ill for the duration- or worse, your slightly weakened immune system might fall easy prey to that completely different strain, causing you to get sicker than normal (A relatively common occurance considering population size/density in the US).

But that was not my point, I don't care if you take the flu shot it's not necessary. My point was not getting the many vaccinations they give to you as a baby.

When it comes to the really deadly vaccinations, oh, definitely; Wouldn't want to see Polio coming back around, for example. Things like tetanus are hugely dangerous, as I noted above. But a yearly flu vaccine? No thank you. I never took it (Educated myself about what they were when I was young and opted out of taking them) and I don't get sick more than once or twice a year- with colds, never flus (And I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, so yeah, every sniffle startup gets a doc visit just in case). The consistant downside to yearly injections just outweighs the potential upside.
