That there makes me want to punch a wall while screaming on the inside. Freaking unbelievable.

technological ineptitude. yep, it doesn't get much more annoying than that when it comes to electronics in general.
a while back my aunt was trying to plug her kindle into the tv so she could watch netflix movies on the tv and guess what the problem was. the cord she was trying to use had the necessary USB plug on one end but on the other, the type used for MP3 players. *facepalm*
if the size difference isn't a dead giveaway that it will never work then the shape difference should definately scream STOP and THINK about what you're doing.
i don't want to say aunt and uncle are dumb when it comes to technology but sometimes...yeah, it can make me wonder.
then one time, when i was trying to figure out why i couldn't get multiplayer to work with my free xbox live account (turns out, you have to pay for multiplayer. yeah, no. give me back my free multiplayer on older consoles, ty. that or i can make do with multiplayer on the pc.). i was trying something with our router to see if i could get it to work and even if it didn't (it didn't) work, i knew how to reverse what i had done and next thing i know she starts freaking out and ranting and raving about how technology is pushing our family apart and i'm sitting there with a look on my face, thinking "wtf is she going on about?".
some people...i've seen some of the worst this site has to offer (never click cheese grater!), some of the most wtf it has to offer (hello twerking dino...thing o_O), strangest/disturbing, and a number of other horrifying things across the internet over they years but you never once hear me freaking out like that. not with anything. voicing my opinion on such things maybe but no, i don't do the whole 'freak out' thing.

Your pity is misguided.
From her perspective, God gave her the strength to do what she has done. If you can't understand believing in God, there's no point in trying to understand others' feelings towards God.

I have an aunt that is like that, she works selling homes ("real estate"?) so her income is quite big, and instead of using the money to improve her own home or for her family she gives it to her church...

Maybe you don't understand. I WAS a christian for most of my life. And I learned my ways from her. I KNOW exactly what she means when she say's "thank god for giving me this" and looking back on my own times of saying that, I realize now that it was all me in the past.
I never said it was my business. but by that logic my lack of belief wasn't any of her business when she decided to introduce me to christ as a child now was it?

If that's how you want it, it has to be the same with atheism.
And that would be one of the most woefully ineffective laws ever written up, and even if it wasn't, I don't see the benefit.

Atheism is the anti-thesis of a religion. You may compare it to a religion but it's nothing but the absence of a religion, so I am not sure how you want to stop it from 'being taught'.
This is a grossly exaggerated example but you're saying that if you want to outlaw stealing you also need to outlaw not stealing.

You really think atheists would never actively discourage religion towards their kids, the same way religious parents actively discourage atheism?
What I'm hearing is "It's not okay to indoctrinate your kids unless they agree with my beliefs."

I think nothing should be taught to them until they can think for themselves. Kids are imprintable. Teens are harder to brainwash.

You don't need to TEACH atheism. I wouldn't need to tell my children not to believe in god. I'd let them reason with it themselves. If they asked me do I believe in a god I'd tell them no and explain why I don't.
If they did say they believe in god. I'd simply ask them questions. and if they realize that they don't have the answers and never will then they can choose wither to have a blind belief in it or not.
Simple as that. No brainwashing required.

To me, that sounds like imposing your beliefs under the guise of free thought.
The only way to truly teach free thought is to show many different faiths- including atheism and agnosticism- from a completely unbiased perspective. And everyone is biased, so that's not gonna happen.

I've always suspected that religious people have some kind of mutation that makes them hear things that weren't said by anyone. Now I have a proof.
Guys I get it. You think that your Bible, or some other fantasy book, is much more special then Harry Potter and your fandom is cool and shows right way to live. But could you please understand that not reading fantasy books is not another name of fantasy book? You're worse then bronies, really.

atheism isn't a faith though. but hey I'm down with teaching my kids as much as they want to learn and the things that they need to survive. buuuuut I just don't think religion is something you really need to be a decent person.

We are born atheists. Not much to learn here.
I wouldn't expect this law to be upheld that much. Behind the four walls of your home and all. The law would be more of a statement that children don't have much of an ability to think critically.
This law would be more effective with schools and teachers. Making sure that the "according to Christian belief" is added to religion lessons.
