With my vague understanding of our world's history, I've deduced that this probably isn't set in any time period or place located on our planet.

Hello, @Ghosti. I am Mexican and I believe is neither Egypt or Mexico. The Hindi script in the wall, makes me think it is in India. Regards.

The lights could be fire rather than electric.

None the less I agree with the South central Asia setting from the sanscrit.
