Judging from kit they are from WW2/Korean War period where the main issued weapon was the M1 Garand. You had bandoliers with lots of pockets to carry clips for your rifle. Far right would be pouches for smg magazines.

Major's uniform is incorrect.

The normal uniform at that time did not have so many, but these here are paratroopers. They operated under a different mentality: There will be no re-supplying where you are going, so take everything that you will possibly need with you at the start. As the battle goes on you consume much of what the pockets offer and by the end, hopefully you have created enough room in the enemies zone of operations that you can bring on reinforcements 'safely.'
