The Catahecassa people are spread out over the world but are united through magic. Their bond and the core of their people exists in a single being, their chosen queen. Lanicera was a little girl when she was named the next in line, she left her family behind along with her childhood friend Larus.

Many years later Lanicera was named queen of her people and reigned well. But with politics come pushy nobles and the desire for her to take a mate was outstanding. Lanicera was nervous and had no real urge to take a husband or wife. But the people were insistent and she began to accept suitors.

Larus came back into her life when to Thane messengers, Romulus and Jules, traveled to her city to deliver new treaties. The dragon she had never forgotten ended up accompanying them from the edge of the city to the center. Lanicera was immediately reminded of her childhood crush on him and in a wacky game of match making on the Thane messengers part she and the dragon reconnected.

But the nobles wanted the queen to marry high-blood and the very idea of a species so different from hers upset many. Knowing that their queen was bull headed they picked away at the dragon instead until Larus finally left on his own, convinced himself to low for the lovely little queen.

Jules managed to convince the dragon to return but Lanicera had been led to believe he left because he did not want her and she agreed broken heatedly to marry the finest suitor, no longer caring.
In a hurried fashion and some help from some Thane come to oversee her marriage, Romulus and Jules managed to sneak Larus to meet the forlorn bride privately before she married.
