I remember checking Bulbapedia once for some info, and I still think they wrote "fox" randomly - to me, they all look more like wolves, especially the Zorua - none of them has almost nothing that looks like a fox. And I know that there are the kitsune that are sort of illusion foxes as well, but we've already got Vulpix and Ninetales, which look more like kitsune.

Zoroark is meant to resemble a Kabuki/Noh actor playing a fox moreso than an actual fox.
Can't say I knew that, honestly. Strange, but some people I asked (I mean those who live in my homeland) say one should be drunk enough to find any fox features in any of this... Really, they find early Japanese culture a bit too weird to their tastes. I don't consider it that weird, though, I just didn't know about that mask, and so I too said that Zoroarks don't look like any foxes (and Zorua still don't, by the way)

Compare Zoroark's face to this fox mask, and you'll see the resemblance: http://noh-mask-kabuki.com/img/photo_10m.jpg

MemberTechnically, Pokémon don't really exist in the games until you encounter them. So in a way it makes sense
QQuontinuum
MemberOdd I alwats thought of them as some weird mix between Worgen from WoW and foxes...but the kabuki reference does make waaaay more sense...
