Prime example why I fucking hate furaffinity so much. Even though the other post was 1280px height and source said it to be PNG, it was downscaled and JPG compressed by FA, which was decreasing quality so much that this lower resolution PNG looked insanely much better. Feel free to look at sources to see the difference.

Also this most likely means there are higher quality version, but it's not public and other artist simply relied on FA to handle making it smaller.

On this particular image (and many like it) on FA, if you click "Full View" or "Download", right click the image and save it, you get a 776x1100 .png file.
The download link even calls it a .png

The initial preview image is a .jpg, because it's a compressed version by design.

Likely, the "other post" (I'm assuming this same image was uploaded in lower quality and subsequently deleted) was based on that .jpg and possibly saved as a .png before uploading it.

No, I know this posts version is 776x1100 PNG file, this is the same as is on following link and it's really good quality.

My issue is with other post that I deleted as inferior, which you can find here (which is also on source list, hence I said "look at the sources"): https://www.furaffinity.net/view/22894602/
If you download this, it says the in filename ".png", but if you actually check file properties you can see it's JPG and if you look the image, it has clear visible compression and it seems like compression level is 90, which is really bad. However the resolution is 902x1280 which is larger. 1280px and 90 compression is almost quaranteed FA processed that image.

So even though it's higher resolution, that compression level and downscaling method FA uses makes it visually look much worse that this post/first link version. And because FA is dumb as fuck, it says it to still be PNG even though it's clearly JPG.
