Well technically a Hydra is a many-headed serpent. It doesn't have to have nine heads to be considered 'many-headed'.Also technically if you cut off its heads two grow back and as long as you keep that up it can have as many heads as possible. Also different writers gave it from one to six to nine to fifty original heads so it makes the number flexible and open to interpretation.
