Well, according to D&D lore, a female kobold can only ever give birth to more kobolds

Yeah, but according to the D&D lore, Dragonborn only existed in 3.5 as avatars of Bahamut that were completely infertile. Yet somehow by 4th Edition they had a several-thousand-year-old civilisation and were an actual species. Funny how the “official” lore is subject to change like that.

The official lore is just a guideline to help along your own worldbuilding anyway. Just like there are houserules there is houselore. In my houselore, there are a fuckton of kobold/dragon/aarakocra hybrids

Much like how the lore in Warhammer 40K changes with every new codex. Genestealers used to be their own race, but GW changed them into a full blown Tyranid bioform.
