"Rule of Cool by Latex"
"The limit of the willing suspension of disbelief for any given element is directly proportional to its awesomeness." -- The Rule of Cool
Instead of starting discussions about the flammability of fur and the velocity of sparks, it is better to just enjoy the awesomeness of the picture.
This is a picture from a furry universe anyway, so there can be lots of creative explanations for everything: For example as a werewolf he could just regenerate any burned fur very quickly; there could be some dragon in his ancestry, giving him fire resistant fur; he could use fire retardant shampoo or spray; he could have sweat glands that keep the fur moist enough that singed fur is not a problem; or MAGIC!
Anyway - my LARP character is also a blacksmith - so here is a nice picture of him in action...
This amazing picture was created by latex ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/latex ) for Rakan ( https://www.furaffinity.net/user/rakan )

MemberI love this piece, but I must ask...
Is he wearing anything other than his gloves, or is he pretty much nude?

MemberBut it's not that awesome. :o I mean, it's good art, but I wouldn't say "Awesome".

Memberthe thing is that actual blacksmiths grow long-ass beards to protect their skin from the sparks
this image is probably more sensible than the creator realised

BlockedScrew the sparks and fur, look at that hammer! He's not swinging that thing more than a few times before his arm falls off. My heaviest hammer is 4lbs, and it's a hell of a workout.

MemberJudging from texture and color Id say that's a wooden hammer, which are lighter.
sylamorase
BlockedA wooden hammer, huh?
Kids, today's word is "context." Not saying a wooden mallet wouldn't be useful. If you put a twist into something and need to bend it back into place a chunk of wood will help shape your work without hurting the twist, but that's not what's going on here.

MemberNot all of them, It's actually about about 75%
And that's just men, There's also more than 12 female blacksmiths, I admit that number is entirely based off of personal experience and in no way is a good basis for statistics. But yeah it should be obvious that there are always exceptions,
