I suppose it refers to the thumb as the fifth finger.

I think mousjstudio meant just why have it in general, I think it might be some people would like to not see 5 fingers, and just have it in their black list, probably just someone that wanted it a ways back and it's just still around.

To differentiate between 4 and 5 fingers or even to show true anthro aside from those anthro where they still have paws, or hooves, or anything else that isn't a hand. Same for 4_toes and 5_toes.

Definitely an interesting color palette...
