A reverse Harry.lu search should usually do the job. If that doesn't, i think the only way really, is to go through the uploaders flag list, and hope one of the flagged posts is the lower quality one that got deleted.

if the post hasn't been deleted yet, there should be a parent or child post on the newer one, which is the lower quality flagged post.

there's probably other ways, but i can't think of any other ways.

Forgot about the search options. If you search status:deleted it'll only come up with deleted posts. you can combine this with tags, to more accurately find a deleted post, though you still have to check every single one of them, as their thumbnail is no longer available.
