I've been following Twokinds since 2008, so yes I have read it.
Throughout the series, Eric has shown interest in Keidrans (Mainly for provocative paintings). Even though he has said 'You're like a sister to me", it's very obvious that he doesn't understand Kat's feelings for him.
He's never though of it as anything else because he's never thought about it at all. If Kat would just stop dropping hints that he's obviously not getting, and outright say 'Eric, I'm IN love with you', he'd be in a situation where he would be putting actual though into their relationship.
